In the 1961 Alumni Fund campaign the outstanding head agent of a class one to ten years out of college was E. John Rosenwald Jr. '52. The 1961 John R. Mason Trophy, symbolic of this honor, was presented to him at the April 4 dinner of class agents in New York, where Fund Chairman John D. Dodd '22 read the following citation:
The 1958 John R. Mason Trophy citation was presented on a similar occasion to your immediate predecessor as 1952 Head Agent, Bernard J. Lewis. His were difficult footsteps to follow in, but you have done so in admirable fashion, and in so doing have made a strong class even stronger. During the first two years you and your Class Agents worked vigorously in behalf of the Capital Gifts Campaign and 1952's record of $82,196 is remarkable indeed. In the years following you rebuilt your Class Agent organization into one of the most able of the Fund task force, and this resulted in a class participation record and a dollar total nearly equal to your pre-Capital Campaign high. Your running competition with the Class of 1953 for Green Derby laurels has spurred all of your contemporary classes to greater achievements, and your pre-campaign enthusiasm this spring, as you begin your fifth year on the job, already has produced better than one third of your dollar goal from over 100 contributors. For the vigour and enthusiasm of your leadership as Head Agent, and for your many contributions toward the million dollar Fund achievement last year, the Dartmouth Alumni Fund Committee proudly presents to you, as outstanding Head Agent of a class one to ten years out, the 1961 John R. Mason Trophy.
