Spring has certainly arrived as is indicated by the piles of mud just to the north of the Medical Building where construction of the new medical student residence, Strasenburgh Hall, is well under way. Its doors are scheduled to be opened for eighty students in January 1963, thereby eliminating the problem of good housing for our embryo physicians. This improvement, coupled with the new auditorium which will begin operation with the 1962 fall term, will complete the first building phase of the Medical School complex.
The Dartmouth Medical School Annual Lecture was presented on March 27 by Doctor U. S. von Euler of the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, Sweden, in the Lincoln Filene Auditorium. Doctor von Euler, a foremost authority in the field, chose as his subject, "Past and Present Concepts of Adrenergic Nerve Transmission."
Plans are progressing rapidly for the luncheons in June - one for reuning alumni on the 15th in Hanover, and one in Chicago at the time of the AMA meetings on the 27th. The first will be held at the Medical School, while the second is presently planned for the Mid-American Club on the top of the Prudential Building.
It is obvious that radiology is now being used for a new purpose. On one weekend Lou Savage M' 44, Kev Ryan M'57, and BobFreeh M'58, all radiologists, came to town for excellent skiing. Two weekends later, Martha and Dave Vaules M'61, non-radiologists, spent their skiing vacation here hunting for snow. Moral - get your X-ray report before starting!
Other visitors since our last include DonAbel M'60 and his new wife from New York, while Eric Sailer M'1l came south of the border from Montreal.
Your correspondent has just returned from a short sojourn in Hawaii and can report first-hand on the well-being of Pat andDick Flagg M'57 with their little Kendall, and Mary and Mel Britton M'58 with their Betsy and Lisa. Each family extended a royal welcome and entertainment to Ella and myself — it was grand. Attempts to reach Jim Tankersley M'58, reported to be on the far side of Oahu, failed.
Join us in Hanover, Chicago, or both in June!
