Remarkable news of the Bob Leavens family from Anna who reports that Robert Seldon Smith enters Dartmouth this year as a freshman. His two grandfathers were Seldon C. Smith '97 and Robert F. Leavens '01. His father is David P. Smith '35. That is a record to be proud of, Anna.
Dr. Charles Merrill spent last winter in Clearwater Beach. He should have come over to the monthly Dartmouth meeting in St. Petersburg.
After Grace Gilmore's death Gillie spent a few weeks with his son Harry in Manchester, N. H. The son is treasurer of the New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company. Harry took him to Hanover to see the great changes which have taken place there recently also to call on Grace's sister and on his roommate for four years in college - Henry Taylor. Gillie is now home in New Canaan, Conn.
Charlie and Helen Chase have, for the past years, been going south for the winter, as far as New York City, to get away from that cold Rensselaerville, N. Y. This year Aggie and Helen attended their son's reunion, the 25th for the class of 1938. While there he met Hoppy in front of the Hopkins Center. To keep his hand in Aggie occasionally surveys some property in the town and compares his survey with one made in 1820.
Chan and Mary Cox spent most of July on the Cape, in August at York Harbor and September at the Mountain View House in Whitefield, N. H. Several months ago, the Boston Herald, on two successive Sundays, had full page articles reviewing the administration of Chan while he was governor of the state and the articles were very complimentary, as they should have been. They gave us reason to be very proud of our classmate.
All the way from Ishpeming, Mich., Mary, wife of Clarence Phelps, writes that he has been in the hospital since July 31 with a bad case of arthritis from which he has suffered for a long time. We all hope for an improvement.
For the benefit of those who have not so far received a card asking for news and who will be reading the letters of those who have answered they should know what the card asks for. It reads as follows: "Dear Classmate or Classmate's widow: You are one of five men or one of five widows who are being asked to send some news. Please tell us about where you are living, how you are feeling, how you spend your time, hobbies, and anything else you can add. Have you seen any of the class, their widows, or members of other classes? Now don't be bashful, your classmates will be glad to hear from you. The deadline for the - issue of the MAGAZINE is - at the address on the reverse side of this card."
