The way October starts in around here no question but that summer is over and winter coming up. My grapevines have been touched but the grapes underneath still need a few more days of Indian summer to be at their best. You folks all seem to be slowing up as far as news is concerned so these notes will be reasonably brief.
The Alumni Fund Staff has already started its planning and organization work for next year's 50th Fund Campaign. I will try to keep you informed as we will have some job on our hands to equal or beat your results of this year.
In your Oct. 2, 1962 list of class members, please change address of Harold Cornstock to Toyon Lodge, Saratoga, Calif. Harold writes he is very pleasantly located on a wooded hillside in the outskirts of Saratoga, only 5 miles from his daughter. He is still in generally good health and will welcome visits or phone calls by the class. George Ford, who came all the way from California to our 60th, is publishing a book which essentially will be an autobiography of his life in the theatrical world. It should be very worthwhile reading.
A recent letter from Ned Kenerson tells of wonderful days off at Basin Harbour, Vt., where they found John McElroy and his daughter, Mrs. Proctor. Another letter, from Whitefield, N. H., tells of meeting friends of our traveling classmate, Bill MacLennan. Ned also wrote that George Ford had recently taken a job with the Moral Armament People to act as Treasurer of their Group of 90 people, chorus and dancers. The group was planning a series of performances in this country and George would work with them until they reached Seattle where they would leave for Tokyo.
Pray Wadham wrote his usual newsy and interesting letter. He feels the Hanover Dog Warden, if there be one, should not permit dogs in the local eateries; possibly this should be referred to the Town Board. He also wrote of Edwin Daniels of Lyndonville, Vt. According to our class list, Edwin has the earliest birth year of any of us. He would be one of those three whose names as Fund contributors I somehow passed over in my Special Report of August 23. Pray has filed a very complete treasurer's report for the year ending June 30, 1963. It shows a balance, including interest through that date, of $883.54. This balance is on deposit in the name of "Dartmouth Class 1903" in the Savings Department of First City National Bank of Binghamton, N. Y.
Next month, if there is room, I will try to give you figures of our class group by years of birth.
