"I'd like to tie in a business trip, but if not I'm still coming," said Rome-based DonHinkley speaking about next June's reunion. This is just an indication of the remote and far-afield whom you can expect to see in Hanover June 19-21. "I'm just worried whether we'll be able to recognize each other after all these years," he mused, stroking his hair and peeking at my jowls. He seemed reasonably assured by my Einstein relativity theory, but convinced when ascertained he'd be spotted by arch rival, Coca Cola king Bruce Thomson.
Don has been U.S.A. based for about four months learning the Pepsi Cola business before returning to Europe and an office in Rome in December as head of Pepsi's European and African operations. As V.P. of Pepsi's international division, Don will be responsible for today's 102 bottling plants and those untold units yet to come.
I'll try not to labor the reunion bit, but just to let you know there is some fur flying. . . . Clark McGregor will be toastmaster at the class dinner; Food Chairman Ja Densmore talked Jim Browning into again using his fabulous home for the brunch; FlyerDaley has organized the picnic plans to include swimming, hand ball, soft ball, and other activities more in keeping with the Dartmouth spirit; George Bruce is the tent man; through the influence of Hap Bush, we will be honored at the dinner with the presence of President Emeritus Ernest Martin Hopkins and Al Foley; and who could be better to organize the kiddies' activities than old Boston Bob McLaughry? As chair man of the class, Bob will also conduct the class meeting where Red Rolfe will be guest speaker; Stan Barr is the music man, and if plans materialize, will have several golf carts with combos of five or six wafting about the campus, properly decorated with '44 signs, and helium balloons.
It's still an amazing feat that a war class such as ours held the largest 15th reunion the College has ever known. Provisions are being made for '44s Roaring Twentieth to set another high.
About our toastmaster. Did you read the lead article in Time Nov. 1 about ClarkMcGregor and his strategy on the Civil Rights issue which not only shook the White House, but brought J.F.K. into accepting the bi-partisan bill encompassing GOP proposals? Wait till '68.

Dr. Monte Du Val has been named head of the University of Arizona's new college of medicine in Tucson. Formerly he had been assistant director of the Oklahoma Medical Center. Monte will wait until early next year to set up the new medical school as he wants to stay on and fight out a $7 million bond issue to provide matching funds for the teaching hospital at Oklahoma U. He's had a lot of opposition. A good political fighter as well as a surgeon, he should win. Incidentally, he was elected president of the Oklahoma Surgeon's Association last year.
