Wayne Eves whose very successful business career has taken him through a myriad of industries and interesting situations now finds himself president of Okoboji Boats, Inc., in Okoboji, lowa. While somewhat removed from his previous business background it certainly is in keeping with his interest in outdoor sporting and his philosophy that you might as well devote your work to those areas where you have the most fun.
It sounds like Russ Hurlburt feels the same way. He's moved to South Miami. That's about the area Red Rolfe '31 has in mind when he retires as athletic director at Dartmouth this July.
Dave Eckel's wife, Pat, has been named acting head librarian of the Howe Library in Hanover. Dave, as you know, is back at Dartmouth with the Office of Development. Even with great Baker Library in town, the public libraries circulate 18.2 items per capita, the highest in its field. The Eckelses and their four children make their home on Ledyard Lane.
Bill White was recently named vice president in charge of marketing for Ott Chemical in Muskegon, Mich. Ott is a subsidiary of Corn Products Co. Bill joined Ott as sales manager in 1965 after twenty years in industrial sales with the DuPont organization. After Dartmouth, Bill got a business degree at Rutgers and did graduate work in organic chemistry at Northwestern.
in the insurance field, John Downs has been appointed manager of Continental Insurance Companies' newly established New England department. Budd Welsh operates his own insurance agency in growing Mendham, N. J. Last fall Budd got together with the Mayberrys, the Hagens, the Hales, and Sullivans at the Yale game. Ben FranklinJones, forever a big wheel in the insurance industry, has lent his energies and talents to the Joint Committee on Candidates of the American College of Life Underwriters. This is a program designed to upgrade the industry requiring an underwriter to complete a five-year program of study for his C.L.U. degree. In addition to this Ben is, as you may know, a college trustee, a hospital corporator, a director of numerous civic organizations, and most important a good golfer. I believe I mentioned this, but Continental Insurance has appointed Don Lindell a secretary. He is responsible for directing the operations of its foreign department, after a highly successful career in South America.
Phil Puchner reports it took three months for Bill McElnea's invoice for class dues to reach him in Dacca, Pakistan, and has suggested the extravagance of an airmail stamp. Phil felt Pakistan wasn't ideal skiing country and ruefully sent wife and son back to their home in Sun Valley for the season. To keep himself in shape he just made a sevenday trek in the rugged Pokhana area of Nepal, near Annapurna Massive. He and his two companions required seven sherpas for the trip.
In sending us a picture of his family on the ski slopes Buffy Hills wrote: "Since I roomed with Sherry Dowsett I found RogFeldman's letter about him most interesting. Living in Cleveland (no sun from October to May) gives me little to entice Rog here to see my hair, so I'm enclosing a picture of the hairy Hills family skiing in Ellicottville, N. Y., where we own one half of a small house. In four years of skiing we have accumulated the following: two spiral breaks in the same leg (wife), one simple break (twin's leg), one deep leg puncture (second youngest son). When you figure we have fourteen arms and fourteen legs in the family, our breakage percentage is damn low."
A growing business and better airline schedules put the kybosh on the BerryCraig-Welch airplane. They find they do better and go faster commercially, which of course is practical but no fun. The Welches seem to like Milwaukee but it's been tough on eldest daughter, Debbie, to have had to make the move in her senior year at high school.
I was just about to put this in the mail when a nice billet doux arrived from BillHale with an article from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announcing DickMayberry's promotion to assistant general sales manager of Xerox Corp., "a little young company," Bill explained, "that possibly you've heard about." It's quite a tribute to Dick's managerial ability. In his new post Dick will be responsible for the direction of all operations of the geographic zones and the operations' administration of sales and service. Now you know whom to call when your copiers break down.
The Buff Hills '44 ski in Ellicottville,N. Y., and brag about their breakage record for four years: two spiral breaks, same leg (wife), one simple break (twin'sleg), one deep leg puncture (secondyoungest son). "When you figure we havearms and fourteen legs, ourbreakage percentage is damn low."
