Coach Whitey Burnham has juggled his midfields and now has four; and all of them saw action as the Indians walloped Colgate 18-8 for the first victory of the season. The Green had lost three in a row in the South against strong opposition.
Bill Bates led the scoring against the Red Raiders with seven goals, proving that the Indian attack is not without power. The others on the attack are Mike Cardozo and Ed Comiskey.
The first midfield unit still includes Captain Bill King (three goals in the Colgate encounter), Paul O'Connell, and Lee Mercer. The second midfield has Mike Herriott, Dick Monahon, and Gary Wilson. The latter, better known for his football prowess, has made a good showing even though new to the game of lacrosse.
The third midfield features Howard Myers, Joe Williams, and Clayton Hering, while on the fourth line is Jim Cooper, Ted Atkinson, and Bob O'Brien. Here is another halfback from the football team turned lacrosse player.
The goal tending problem seems to have been solved in the person of Brian "Wa Wa" Walsh. Though only a sophomore, he has made a good showing in the four games to date.
The overall outlook is good. The team is hustling and with the Colgate victory under its belt, it could overcome even the toughest opponents left on the schedule.
