The primary goal of the Dartmouth Rugby Club this fall is to instil in its three teams the same finesse and teamwork that the varsity saw last spring when it played a number of Irish teams during spring vacation abroad. In the past the club has relied mainly on size and speed.
This new concept will be put to the test this fall when the three rugby teams - the varsity, the Stouts and the Savages - take on a full schedule against such teams as Holy Cross, Harvard, Princeton, the New York Rugby Club, and the Manhattan Rugby Club. Already it has started to prove the worth of this new concept with varsity victories over the Montreal Wanderers 16-0 and M.I.T. 9-0. This last encounter was the opener for the Indians in Eastern Rugby Union competition.
The Stouts have lost their only game to date, 5-3, to the Boston Rugby Club, and the Savages have downed the Harvard "B" squad 15-3 in their only game.
The backbone of the club this year will be provided by veterans Don Burris, club president, Tom Tucker, and Captain Jack Huber. The body of the club will come from men moving up from the Stouts and Savages. Captain Huber feels that this year's varsity looks strong and should hold its own against Eastern Union teams.
