Hairy Davidson's much publicized and ultra-modern high rise apartment complex in Dallas opened for business last month. 'The $5 million project is designed basically for "over 50" couples. The structure employs a unique architectural design which gives each apartment an uninterrupted view of the Dallas skyline and without the awareness that there are other apartments on either side. The promoter and president of the corporation, Harry is working on a similar program for Houston and San Antonio.
Dr. Frank Ebaugli, an internationally renowned blood specialist, has left Dartmouth again. After having served on the Medical School faculty for 9 years, Frank accepted the position of Dean of the Boston University School of Medicine.
Prof. Dave Scotford, chairman of Miami's geology department, was recently awarded a Fulbright lecturing grant to spend the 1964-65 academic year in Turkey. He and his family sailed for Italy early in August, proceeded to Greece and Istanbul before settling at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey. In December they'll make an auto tour through Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Iraq with a month in France and Spain.
Fred Kennedy was recently named assistant vice president of the National Shawmut Bank of Boston. Fred's been with the bank since he left school in '47. Harold Weeks of Wellesley. Mass., has been promoted to Securities Manager in the treasury department of the New England Telephone Company. He had formerly served as treasury cashier in the Portland and Boston areas.
Smith/Greenland Company has named Don Smith as senior vice president in charge of client contact and marketing services. Don's varied advertising background started in the promotion departments of "Life" and "Look," then to account executive positions with Grey and Young and Rubicam, to v.p. and account supervisor for Kenyon and Eckhardt, and then senior v.p. for Donahue and Co. In addition, Don owns the Christmas Tree Inn in Sugarbush Valley, Vt.
Through the kindness of Wally Blakely '30, I just learned that Phil Penberthy has joined the Consolidated Cigar Corporation as assistant marketing manager. Ray Hensler was elected v.p. of Whiting Plover Paper Company, manufacturers of fine writing and printing papers. Ray has been in charge of eastern sales and had been living in Rumson, N.J. He will now move to the home office in Stevens Point, Wise.
In their bid to gain control of Republic Aviation Corp., the Fairchild Stratos Corporation gained two seats on the Republic Board in July. One of the two new directors is Walter Burke who is also on the Fairchild board.
Speaking of Republic Aviation, HamRowan who had been Public Relations Coordinator for their engineering department has left to become executive assistant to the executive v.p. of the American Kennel Club. Ham is a well known fancier of German Shorthaired Pointers and has been honored for his work in promotion of the breed.
Monte Basbas, City Clerk of Newton, Mass., was recently named to the board of directors of the Newton South Co-operative Bank. He is also a director of the Garden City Trust Company. Jack Haffenreffer completed his two-year term as president of the Massachusetts Safety Council and was honored by the Board at a recent meeting. He will continue as a director. In addition to his executive responsibilities at the brewery, Jack is very active in the United Fund of Boston and in the Society for Advancement of Management.
The St. Joseph Lead Company of New York fittingly marked its centennial year by naming John Englehorn to a vice president post. John, formerly assistant to the president of the firm, will be responsible for raw materials purchases, legislative affairs, and industry association activities. He is treasurer and a member of the board of the American Zinc Institute and chairman of the industry development committee of the Lead Industries Association.
Pete Schaub, president of Harry P. Schaub, Inc. of Newark, N.J., dealers in tax exempt securities, mutual funds, and other industrial and utility issues, has been elected president of the Bond Club of New Jersey. Attorney Steve Tate of Westport, Conn., has announced the formation of a law partnership with E.J. Capasse, assistant prosecutor in circuit court.
At reunion, Rog Feldman told me he's given up his search for underwater treasures. There's a chap here in Cincinnati who's had a fetish about gold mines for years. Word came in over the weekend that he's officially located the Old Dutchman's mine in Superstition Mountain. Time for Roger to dust off his flippers and goggles.
