Much news has piled up over the summer. It will take several issues to cover all the weddings, promotions, and achievements our men have been involved in, but that does not mean you shouldn't keep the items coming
Our families have increased, Mark andJudy Ewing have a son born July 1. Johnand Anne Baldwin have a new son, John Nordlander Baldwin; Charlie Eytel is the father of another daughter, and Howie andEstelle Munroe had their first child, a son, born on their second anniversary, June 3. Howie had been interning at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City until he went into the Air Force in July, Shaw Air Force Base, S. C.
Wedding news tops everything in magnitude. Charlie Steinhacker married Barbara Lee Moskol of Milwaukee in June. Having traveled through the West for their honeymoon, the couple now lives in New York where Charlie is a free lance photographer. Professor Andrews married Linda Fitch in June. Shelly London took Margery Passett as his bride in June also. Will andShawn Hartfeldt became Mr. and Mrs. on June 13 after having their paths cross first at Dartmouth and Wellesley, then at Stanford and the West Coast Fleet, and finally at U. of Chicago where she is working in humanities and he in law. Terry Ceranski and Catherine Ann Luby were married on June 6. Terry received his M.D. from U. of Buffalo Medical School on May 31. Another new doctor, Tom Otter, married Marcia Jane McCabe in May. He was awarded his degree by U. of Minnesota in June. And out in the mid-West, John Beck married Janet Elaine Tieken of Milwaukee m May. John is associated as a stock broker with Francis I. duPont and Company in Milwaukee. In July Don Folkers and Janet Louise Richardson were married in Scranton, Pa. And that's it for weddings as far as I know. Let me know what you know.
Other news includes that of Phil Schmehl's being promoted to the position of Education Director of the American Casualty Company. He will direct the training schools which ACCO conducts for its employees in property, casualty, and accident and health insurance. Tom Davis writes from Kenya, Africa. He is using his spare time to see as much of the country as possible. Al Gilburg dropped a line mentioning the enrollment work he's doing for the Big Green in a Washington, D. C., high school. There has been no senior pastor at the Westmoreland Congregational Church since he began work there over a year ago, so he's had his hands full. Ed Hobbie received his law degree from Newark School of Law back in June, and is now probably studying for the bar exams. Joe Nadeau was recently named an outstanding member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Dover, N. H. Bill Gentry and wife Judy are now living in West Leb while he interns at Hitchcock.
Dave Trumbull wrote a while ago from Kabul, Afghanistan where he is an English specialist for the Afghanistan-India Project of Columbia Teachers College. He also works with the Peace Corps training groups assigned there. Dave, wife Ginny, and their two children went to the Near East via Rome and Athens and have subsequently toured Russia and Pakistan. George Powell recently joined the overseas development section of Mobile Chemical Company s commercial development and services department. Bob Johnson received his Master of Arts in teaching degree in French Education from Brown in June. Pete Strock has joined his father and uncle in dentistry on Martha's Vineyard having received final residency training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. And back to Brown, JohnCook was awarded his Master's in Anthropology in June.
From the U. of Cincinnati comes news of Wendell Leavitt's appointment as assistant professor of sociology. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from UNH and had taught at Dartmouth and UNH and various advanced study summer institutes before accepting his present position. Cary Stiff was named first alternate to the Pulitzer Fellowship awarded by Columbia University School of Journalism. He is the winner of the Robert E. Sherwood Memorial Scholarship which will enable him to undertake independent research in some field of American life.
Tom Aley has been named New York region and Eastern Area sales manager for American Hospital Supply, division of American Hospital Supply Corporation. Garf DeMarco received his law degree from Yale back in June and also an Athens College Teaching Fellowship to Anatolia College in Thessaloniki, Greece, which he was awarded in recognition for the high grades he obtained in the ancient Greek language he studied in addition to his legal work. He will eventually join the office of his brother in Hammonton, N. J. Dick Watson was elected internal vice president of the Glastonbury, Conn., Junior Chamber of Commerce. And here the ticker tape ends for now.
The bright colors of the season will soon be added to by the sparks from the Princeton game bonfire. Hope to see many of you there.
