At the 50th Anniversary Alumni Fund Dinner in Hanover on January 17, EllwoodH. Fisher '2l was honored with a Dartmouth Alumni Award. Alumni Council president Page Worthington '33 made the presentation and read the following citation:
A native son of Cleveland, you have worked since graduation in 1921 with Fisher Foods, and have headed the firm since 1948. You have given just about as much time and attention to community activity and to Dartmouth service as you have to business. Among other things that you have given Dartmouth is a son - Ellwood M. Fisher of the class of 1960.
The listing of your civic responsibilities is long and impressive. It would seem that scarcely any movement in the city has not in one way or another received your leadership and help. In the field of education, you were a founder and the first chairman of the Board of Trustees of Fenn College which has honored you with its Distinguished Service Award and an honorary degree. Years of work in the Cleveland Community Chest Fund included your chairmanship of those great drives. Among your top distinctions was World War II service as a Lieutenant Colonel responsible for procuring combat rations for overseas service requirements for which you were awarded the Legion of Merit.
Always among the most active members of your Class of 1921, and of the Cleveland Dartmouth Club, you became a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council in 1958 and two years ago gave the Council a strong administration as its president. You have worked on Trustee Planning Committees for the College, and in regional fund raising campaigns on which your generous and skillful help has been deeply appreciated. You have kept closely in touch with Hanover, participating in the growing strength of the College.
We are delighted to present to you, Ellwood Fisher, the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
