The annual Faculty-Student Slalom was run off on February 29 with the faculty holding a big edge as usual. More than 150 skiers, snowshoers and tobogganers dotted the slopes of Nice's Nemesis. After the skiing a buffet dinner was served in Strasen-burgh and a social evening followed. It is noteworthy that the team composed of students' dates scored in second place, far ahead of the students!

You should have already received a preliminary program of the May 30 meeting of the Nathan Smith Medical Society. If you were unintentionally missed in the 2500- piece mailing, please consider this your invitation to attend. We think we have planned a scientific program with something for everyone, regardless of any individual's type of medical activity, and John Milne M'38 is arranging impressive dedication exercises for the Syvertsen Memorial. Social activities during the busy day have not been neglected. We believe you will consider it a day well spent when you return home.

Now that the work of filling the 48 available vacancies in our 1964 fall entering class has been completed, some idea of the scope of that effort might be interesting. During the June 1-December 1, 1963 period during which applications were accepted, we received 1356 requests of which 692 returned completed forms. Of these, 605 were from colleges other than Dartmouth. After all applications were carefully screened, some 200 candidates were interviewed, each by a minimum of three doctors individually. From these, the class, composed of 26 Dartmouth men and 22 students from 18 other colleges, was selected. We are still receiving requests but, with the class list already completed, we have been denying them since the December 1 deadline.

The first run of the matching system for transfer of our second-year students has been completed. Although a few "bugs" developed as was expected, the process as a whole proved quite successful. We will have representatives next fall in the third-year classes of: Colorado, Einstein, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, McGill, Pennsylvania, and Washington of St. Louis. In general it appears that this, with some refinements, may be the answer to future transfers.
