Gilroy and His Play
NOVEMBER 1965

The theater season on campus opened on October 16 in a very special way. The play was "The Subject Was Roses," winner of this year's Pulitzer, Tony, and Drama Critics Circle awards, and was presented by a traveling company that featured Betty Field, Dennis O'Keefe, and Peter Duryea.

Award-winning playwright Frank Gilroy '5O was in the audience and at the conclusion of the evening performance was brought to the stage for a curtain call with the cast by an appreciative audience. Mr. Gilroy's first dramatic productions were on the stage at the College's old theater in Robinson Hall.

The playwright was also feted at a banquet by the students on The Dartmouth. In addition to taking every playwriting prize in sight, the author as an undergraduate had also been editor-in-chief of the undergraduate daily newspaper.
