As I write this one, rain is pelting my window and through the fog I can see Lop, the intended carnival statue, slumping listlessly to one side.

I had a chance to talk with Bill Pettway over the phone the other day. He manages to bring in some extra income as a football official in his area. For some reason he doesn't allow either team to use a cannon to celebrate touchdowns. All he could tell me about 's9s was that Jim Wall is currently an intern down in Vanderbilt. Lefty Cline was in town the other day recruiting for his bank. He looked serious and impressive as a businessman and manages to get around quite a bit on recruitment jaunts. We could use his unorthodox jump shot on our administration basketball team which is currently 2 and 5 in the intrafraternity league.

Word comes from down Connecticut way that Art and Kitty Quirk have a brand new daughter. Art is training with the Connecticut Light and Power Company down that way. Vinnie Sawyer has engaged himself to Judith H. Eastburn of Wilmington, Del. Vinnie is currently with the Department of the Navy in Washington. Al Ziegler played it cool when he married Katrina Cooley back in November. Chuck Donovan recently took over a new post with the telephone company as manager of Palmer, Mass., office. He has been with the telephone company three years. He and his wife and two young daughters plan to move to Palmer from Northboro shortly. Rick Francis recently graduated as top lawyer from the Naval Justice School in Newport, R. I. He received the American Bar Association award for professional merit and will return to duty at Camp Lejeune, N. C. He took his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Chip Fisher has settled down again at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware after participating in Exercise Goldfire 1 in the Ozark Mountains of south-central Missouri along with 20,000 men in a joint U.S. Air Force Army Training exercise conducted by the U.S. Strike Command.

A somber note of pathos comes from a letter written by Bob Worthington, a classmate who did not graduate with us having left college to join the Marine Corps after the first semester of his sophomore year. He graduated with the Class of 1961. Those of you who rowed on the freshman crew should remember him well. A fine family of two daughters and one son was formed during his years in the service and while here on the Hanover Plain. That family was tragically reduced by one when son Scott died at home after suffering a cardiac arrest as a result of bronchial pneumonia. Bob did his best to revive the boy with mouth to mouth resuscitation, but failed. I know all of us, especially those who are parents, share his deep grief over the loss of a loved young one. Bob is setting up a fund here at the College in his son's memory. The Worthingtons are currently stationed in Columbus, Ga.

And now some quick bits from the cards. Joe Dare is currently at Harvard Business School. Larry Friedrieks is with Twentieth Century Fox as an executive in the international department in New York City. JimGroundwater is an intern at the Keiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco. WaltMaischoss is a staff accountant with Lybrand. Ross Brothers and Montgomery in Detroit. Franie Noel is with the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado right near all that great skiing. Also out that way is Harry Shaw - a sales representative for U. S. Steel in Denver. GeorgeShipley is an assistant professor of Spanish at the University of California, Berkeley. I hope he stayed clear of all those student riots. Pete Stern is with Dillon Reed & Company in investment banking as an associate in the buying department. How's the hair line, Peter? And that's about it for this time.
