MARCH 1965 RUSSELL G. PUTNEY '22

On the occasion of his 50th anniversary as president of the Cheshire County Dartmouth Alumni Association in 1914, W. Harry Watson '03 was made Honorary President for life by 60 members and guests at the annual meeting held December 29, 1964. Mr. Watson was given a standing ovation upon the announcement.

At the business meeting of the association the following officers were elected: president, Herbert C. Nichols '39; vice president, Fred Graf '44; secretary-treasurer, Russell G. Putney '22; examining committee, Bob Mensel '41, Harry Watson '03, and Sam Bradley '54.

Speaking for the undergraduates Dave Adams '65 said that the college is revamping the course arrangement for the freshman and sophomore classes in regard to major subjects as well as changing the grading system.

The main speaker of the evening was Earl Hamilton, freshman football coach. He gave a very interesting talk on the methods used in picking a team quickly out of the 100 freshman candidates that come out every year. The system seems to work well as unknown or unheralded boys come to the fore every season. The purpose of freshman football is to give all the first three elevens experience that will help them make the varsity. His prediction for next fall - loads of backfield talent but thin interior line and line backers. Probable team to beat - Yale.
