The 41st annual meeting of the Cheshire County Dartmouth Alumni Association was held in the Currier and Ives room of the Hotel Ellis on Monday evening, December 27. Sixty-seven members and guests were present.
President Jack Bean '31 welcomed the alumni and guests and requested that members introduce their guests to the Association. W. Harry Watson spoke briefly on our changing times, and said that he had not missed a Harvard game yet. Perkins Bass '34, newlyelected Congressman, remarked that he enjoyed this Dartmouth meeting because the Association only met once a year, there were no responsibilities, no dues, and no one made you come.
A nominating committee composed of Fuller Ripley '33, Ken Arwe '40 and Ed Brummer '31 brought in the following slate of officers, who were elected: President, B. Crampton Carrick '35; Vice President, Paul Cummings '35; Secretary-Treasurer, Russell Putney '22. Executive Committee: George Hanna,Harold Fuller and Delcie Bean. Examining Committee: George Kingsbury, W. HarryWatson and Charles Burke.
The guest speaker of the evening was Edward Chamberlain, Director of Admissions. He said he was in the dark in regard to the football situation but knew the committee was working diligently to sift the coaching applicants. Eddie explained that he was heading up Admissions because Al Dickerson is secretary of a planning committee which was supposed to come up with the answers as to whither the College was heading in regard to size, plant construction, faculty and curriculum. The speaker also went into some detail concerning the problems of the Admissions office, the chief difficulty being multiple applications. In closing he addressed his remarks to the prospective students at Dartmouth and suggested they decide first of all the type of college they wanted - specialized or liberal arts.
Following the talk a film "Football Highlights of 1954," was shown.
