Gadzooks! Can it be? Just about two months until reunion ... what a lot of work Eric Miller (*) and his troops must be doing so we can have the sort of carefree and enjoyable weekend it's sure to be. If you haven't already signed up, hit the boss for a raise and a four-day hiatus in the usual grind, head for the hills, and join the gang June 18. If you want some clues as to who will be there, the next three columns (this one plus May and June) will show you as each name mentioned with an asterisk (*) is planning to make it. Like who?
GOVERNMENT GUYS — A welcome note from Cdr. Frank Barker (*) states that after many years in and west of California, he's finally got a two-year stint at the Penta- gon. It will be good to see him in June after too long an absence. Another V-5 type, Clarke Nash (*) will be there, too. Unlike some of you who haven't been in Hanover since '48 or '50 or thereabouts, Frank has at least flown over the town a few times!
Trying to get onto the government payroll, or at least taking an active civic role locally, Jim Lyons ran for election to the Millburn, N.J., school board a couple of months ago. If you didn't make it, Spider, how 'bout at least getting on the list for reunion so you can compare New Hamp- shire education? If he didn't make it, Jim still had plenty to keep him busy never mind a wife and three children: member of the Canoe Brook Country Club, trustee of the Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters, member of the P.T.A., the Short Hills Association, and the Country Club Association. For pin money, Jim commutes to a New York job at Grace National Bank. After Thayer he got an MBA from the Harvard B School.
GRAPEVINE REPORTS — Gleaned from the pages of the February 11 Cleveland Press is the news that Joe Hendrich has been named executive vice president of the Better Business Bureau in charge of operations. After six years he takes over the whole shooting match including publishing its bulletin, "Facts." After hours he still enjoys his blades as a member of the Cleveland Skating Club. Do you keep in practice on the piano, too, Joe?
One state to the west and a month earlier Bob Foster received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Earlham College, Richmond, Ind. He was an insurance agent for 11 years before enrolling and was treasurer of Ralph S. Foster & Sons in Fitchburg, Mass. On January 20 he and his wife (the former Constance Smith) with four kiddies headed for Napierville, Ill., where Bob will be director of the Midwest Yokefellow Center organizing and leading spiritual retreats for church groups. Names of offspring: Marsha, Brenda, Stephen, and Carol.
Two items emanate from Potatoland. ... In Orono Dr. David R. Fink, professor of education and director of team teaching at the U. of Maine, spoke to the local PTA in January. Dave earned his master's in education from Penn in 1953 and his Ph.D. there four years later. ... Also in that part of the world, Dr. Robert D. Wilson is radiologist at Mt. Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor.
Judging from the recent address change on Paul Keetz, we doubt that you'll see him in June. He can be reached care of the First National Bank of Boston, Florida 99, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ralph Muehlig, manager of industrial relations for Westinghouse TV and Radio in Edison, N. J., got an industry (NEMA) community service award in February when he retired as prexy of the Middlesex County United Fund. The letter citing him for this award noted: "The activities which you have performed in the in terest of The United Fund reflect credit on all electrical manufacturing companies and their employees." Ralph's numerous other activities were chronicled recently here when he was appointed to the New Jersey State Board of Mediation.
INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ — WesCarr (*) penned an informative and cordial note the day before George Washington's natal day to relay new Memphis address at 532 Avon Cove. Half a dozen years ago the Carr salary-security existence was swapped for the harrowing, but rewarding life of a manufacturers' rep. Larger business and larger family dictated the recent move. Son Tom is now a year old and joins sister Susannah in the Carr quarters. Wes' products are in the house-and-hard-ware lines. Occasionally Wes sees Ken Clark and, yes, by George! Atlee Wise is also in Memphis and neither of those two have signed for reunion. Get hot, Wes!
In case you go astray in Beantown, DanFeatherston (*) has opened his own law offices in suite 412 Winthrop Building, 7 Water Street, "for the practice of trial and appellate advocacy." Rotsa ruck, ferrow! From afar comes a similar bit of glad tidings announcing that Dan Schausten (*) has been appointed a senior veep at Goodrich & Snyder's Portland, Ore., public relations headquarters. Schau expects to be on board June 18 "if I'm still amblatory." Okay, buddy, see ya there.
We're running down near the bottom of a last page, so you can go stash those Easter eggs for the midgets or go back to your crocus counting, but it's also that time of year to put in a plug for the Alumni Fund. John Dwyer (*) is leading the way as Head Agent again this year and right now would be an excellent time to draw a larger-than-ever check for your support in this important concern. Take a look at the tax return you just finished. LBJ gave you many razz-buckniks to bolster the economy but Dartmouth needs its share and more. Why not send a little of that boon to Hanover? Soon — before you need it to pay for a reunion baby sitter? Thanks!
Hey, hey. Here's a little exercise for you till next time. Take the initial of each guy listed using the first or nickname. It spells a message about June 18 in Hanover. These gents all will: Bob Burrill, (*) Ed Myers (*)... Tom O'Connell, (*) Hal Fitkin, (*) EugeneUlrich, (*) Rog Mathes, (*) Ell Loeb. (*) You too!
