The merry merry month of May reminds us of those gleeful moments on the steps of Dartmouth Hall when gray flanneled, white shirted yodelers compete for honors in the hum. Sort of a Mitch Miller without audience participation. This year's winners probably will have a goatee up front where it counts to prove they're in step with the times.
Meanwhile, trying to keep you posted on classmates' activities we think you might be interested in some ...

ATTAIN AND ACCLAIM
Three stalwarts of the tribe rate a tip of the topper this month for more or less recent attainments. In fact, we'd like to acclaim them as real leaders in their rather diverse field. For example, Dick Sitzer was named general manager of Hurlbut Papers in South Lee, Mass., January 1. Dick's past assignments have included stints as treasurer, comptroller, and marketing manager for the company since 1956. He was with U.S. Envelope for six years before joining Hurlbut, a Mead division.
Also a first of the year promotion was the appointment of Dick Wallace as vice prexy for National Molasses Co. in Scotch Plains, N. J. Dick lined up on the National team after ten on that of Pacific Molasses where he'd been v. p. He also worked as a commodity trader for W. R. Grace & Co. and sailed as a ship's officer for Moore-McCormack Lines. Dick and Nancy used the Eddie Cantor formula for a family: five gals!
Ralph Muehlig is a community-conscious guy. As if he didn't have enough to keep him busy as vice president of the New Brunswick-Raritan Valley (New Jersey) Chamber of Commerce, director of the Middlesex County Safety Council, and trustee of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, he's gone and taken on the presidency of the United Fund of Middlesex County, a $600,000 plus fund-raising effort - the sixth largest in the State of New Jersey. In his spare time Ralph also is manager of industrial relations for the television-radio division of Westinghouse Electrical Corp.
SALES TALES
A recent communique brings us up to date on Larry Smith. He is secretary in the firm of Laurence R. Smith Inc., West Hart-ford, a manufacturers' agent-distributor operation for building products. Larry thinks the Fifteenth is a "must" and Elenor agrees. No opinion registered by Elizabeth (five), Laurence III (four), or Ruth (three).
Address change report reveals that Dick Ledyard is the branch manager for Graybar Electric in Syracuse. Good for you, Richard.
Tor Arneberg now heads up the Xerox midtown Manhattan branch. Tor had been a district sales and product manager for Kordite Company and lives in Darien with his wife, Jean, and three children.
By means of the government mail, Independent Nail Corp., the "world's largest manufacturer of threaded ferrous and non-ferrous nails," has announced that Dave Pittenger has been named general sales manager. Since 1963 Dave has been eastern sales promotion manager in the Metropolitan New York City area. Dave and Louise, and sons John and Michael, are relocating from Chatham, N. J., to Prior Farm Road in South Duxbury, Mass. Before joining Independent Nail, Dave was product manager with the Nichols Wire and Aluminum Co. in Davenport, lowa.
A couple of events in the life of JackMeehan are recent enough to merit being called news. First, he and Joan have an heir who'll be one year old on May 21. The lad's name is Donald. Second, Jack is veep for sales with Diamond Clay Products Ltd. in Burlington, Ontario. 'He says that all came about after three years' Army tour (distinguished grad of the Infantry School, Fort Benning) stateside and in Japan and a couple of years with the Stanley Works in Washington and Oregon. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in the fall of 1954 with Northern Asbestos & Building Supplies Ltd. and transferred to Ontario in 1960. Jack says Pete Reilly was recently wed (see last year's January Alumag) and that Jack bumped into Jim McCrum in Seattle in 1954 and Edmonton in 1957. Last month we noted that Jim is currently in Australia and agree with Jack's observation: he really gets around!
GOVERNMENT GUYS
"Doc" Irons' career was pretty well rehashed here a couple of months ago, but to refresh your memory he's head of urology at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. A tabulation of offspring has arrived since the previous revelations and you can note that he and Nancy have five youngsters, Andrea, Kimberly Ann, Jonathan, Mark, and Leslie, born over a ten-year span and probably in many geographic locations.
A newspaper clipping on the launching of the "USS Sam Rayburn" brought out a couple of interesting aspects of Bill Williams' prospective command. The vessel slid down the ways in Newport News in December and is the sixth sub Bill has served in. Earlier he'd sailed in Entemedor, Toro, Darter, and most recently as navigator in Patrick Henry and exec for the John Marshall, the latter two both being Polaris missile carriers. Bill has the "gold" crew command. His counterpart for the "blue" has a good Navy name: Oliver Hazard Perry Jr.!
GRAPEVINE REPORTS
Joe Mager has had his own legal practice in Milford, Conn., since 1961. Before that he was in partnership for three years. He and Elizabeth have two boys and a girl, Joe Jr., James, and Jaqueline. He and Maggie offset the Mager menagerie with two girls and one boy, Cornelia, Edward, and Susan ... Sandy Marson is purchasing agent for John Oster Manufacturing Co. in Milwaukee and not long ago was appointed to the executive staff of this make of home appliances and fractional horsepower motors. He and Madge have two sons, Dan and Phillip, ten and seven, and they are planning on attending reunion next year.
A couple of insurance agency gents hope to make it to the 15th, too. One such is Bob Jones way down in Evergreen, Ala., sho' nuff, who has had his own business since 1957. Bob is a bach but keeps busy with myriad civic affairs, an abiding interest in architecture and allied arts, and meetings of the National Trust and the Alabama Historical Society ... Dick Lohnes is veep in the Carl W. Lohnes Agency in Schagicoke, N. Y. He and Eleanor boast two boys, David and John.
Once more before vacation time. Meanwhile, if you've never given more than a fin to the Fund, why not find a way to be a $50 '50 for the 50th Anniversary???
