It's always a pleasure to write the October issue of this column. For once in the year there is plenty of news thanks to an accumulation over the summer months. From reading the many press clippings, I would say that it's been a good summer for several classmates. Many job promotions are reported and even a few marriages.
Harvey Medlinsky was married to Christina Crawford, daughter of film star Joan Crawford. The couple is living in New York. Harvey is a stage director. His most recent film credit is "Barefoot in the Park." He has also directed "An Evening with Mike Nichols and Elaine May," and has recently taken the play "The Odd Couple" to London for a series of performances.
Also exchanging marriage vows was Roger Williams with the former Marilyn Thornton. Roger is associated with the law firm of Towley, Updike, Carter & Rogers in New York City. Marilyn is a graduate of Connecticut College and is assistant to the dean of the graduate school at Pace College. She is also an instructor in history there and a candidate for her doctorate at New York University.
A note from Jack Morris at Corn Products Company advises me that Ed Boyer has been elected a vice president of Lennen & Newell, Inc., New York-based advertising agency. Ed is an account executive on the Corn Products account. He joined Lennen & Newell in 1963 from Lever Brothers.
Also moving up in the advertising world is Don Goss who has been named a vice president of Ketchum, MacLeod and Grove, Inc.
Bert Melcher announces the formation of a partnership, Borman/Melcher & Associates, for the practice of Structural Engineering. The new firm is in Denver.
Dave Halloran was named Dartmouth College's "Class Treasurer of the Year." This award is made to the outstanding class officers. Part of the credit belongs to our class since Dave was cited for carrying our class to a new high level of dues representation and for turning in the year's best performance among all dues-paying classes having 300 or more living members. As reported last year, Dave is vice-president of marketing for Aerolab Development Company in Washington, D. C.
Rogers Corporation has named Bob Poor manager of personnel development, a new position in the company. Bob had previously been assistant personnel manager of the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company in Worcester, Mass. Preston Doane has been appointed assistant manager by Shearson-Hammill & Company of their Springfield, Mass., office. Pres joined the brokerage firm in 1962 after working for the international department of Chase Manhattan Bank and with the investment firm of J. D. Marsh and Associates. Another promotion in the investment business went to Marty DeGennaro. Marty was elected a vice president of Blair & Company, Inc., the nationwide investment firm. He is manager of the firm's New Haven office where he has been located since 1960.
President Johnson announces with pride the promotion of Peter S. Bridges to the class 4 of the Foreign Service. Since entering the Foreign Service, Pete has served in Panama, Germany, and the USSR. He is presently assigned to the Department of State as a Foreign Affairs Officer. Pete and Mary Jane have three children.
Last but not least I am happy to report that the Class of 1953 once again finished on top in our Alumni Fund Green Derby. Another fine job by Ed Condit and his many class agents. Everything indicates another good football team this fall and I hope to see you at some of the games.
