Last month, of course, saw the registration of a new first-year class here at Tuck. A class of 113 first-year students registered September 23-24 and 103 students returned for second-year work. We would like to take the opportunity to welcome these new students and wish them well in their endeavors at Tuck School.

On September 19, 20 and 21 Deans Hill and Hennessey attended the 50th anniversary meeting of the NICB entitled "The Future of Capitalism" in New York City. On September 26 Dean Hill participated in a panel discussion of the Middle Atlantic Placement Association in Pittsburgh on the subject of "Goals of Higher Education."

There is a lot of news from our alumni this month. We would first like to congratulate Robert S. Aldom T'46 for his recent appointment as vice president at the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company. ... We recently received an announcement from Kuhn, Loeb and Company that Michael Stern T'60 is now associated with their buying department. ... Jack Swenson T'61 is acting as campaign coordinator for Republican representative candidate John McGlellon of Concord, Mass. ... Ensign Dean Edson T'63 has recently been appointed commanding officer of the Fifth Coast Guard Supply Depot in Portsmouth, Va. ... Ariel Halpera T'59 is now vice president of the Abacus Fund Incorporated in New York. ... Special congratulations to associate editor StephenQuickel T'58 for the praise he received for his business and writing abilities from Forbes Magazine in their August 15 issue.

From the Graduate School of Industrial Administration of Carnegie Institute of Technology comes word that John Farley T'59 has been promoted to Associate Professor of Industrial Administration. ... JohnMitchell T'54 has been appointed Business Manager of Tufts University.... WalterLashar III T'58 has been named a branch administration officer at Mechanics National Bank in Worcester, Mass.... Richard HillT'42 was recently elected the twenty-second president of the First National Bank of Boston.

Fred W. Miller T'4l has been elected president of the Boston Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute. He is currently controller of Boston Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company and Mutual Boiler and Machinery Insurance Company of Waltham, Mass.... Gardner Ferguson T'40 has been elected president of the Lexington (Mass.) Federal Savings and Loan Association....

William Lieson T'33 has been elected president of the Valley Bank and Trust Company of Springfield, Mass.... Bob Lee T'60 has been named a division vice president and general manager of the A. M. Fare Division of American Machine and Foundry Company. He formerly was assistant general manager and sales manager of AMF Food Service Division in Essex, Conn.... Lawrence J. Kugelman T'25 was elected vice president and general manager of woodlands for the International Paper Company at a recent meeting of the Board of Directors.
