Well, as usual, they came from near and far for Carnival, and many were '64's, who mostly came quite a distance to enjoy the weekend. 50 degree weather and a hockey loss to Harvard greeted all the Carnival visitors, so that most of us Carnival veterans were unsure as to whether this was really a Carnival weekend. But by the time we had weaved our way through Friday and Saturday night parties we were quite reassured.
As I said, several members of the Class traveled quite a distance to join the festivities. John Ferdico came all the way out from Chicago, where he is a student at Northwestern Law School. Paul Pringle kept his string of big weekends alive by making the trek from Michigan Law. Paul also made it out for Houseparties - this is the sort of Big Green spirit we like to see. Bill Boukalik shed his barrister's robes out at Ithaca, where he is attending Cornell Law School, and came back to Hanover as guest columnist for the "D" sports staff - but, as I mentioned, there's not much positive to report in a 5-3 loss to the "Hevuds."
Bill Affolter left a very attractive 86-year-old cadaver at Syracuse Med School and made the Carnival scene with a live date. Carnival had more than the usual attraction for Affy, as Ed Keible, Affy's ex-roomie, used the occasion to announce his engagement to Miss Tina Biggs (Colby J.C. '65). Keibs hopes for a September wedding, and then would like to attend Harvard Business School in the fall. Tom Morton, Bo Andersen, and I also helped Ed and Tina celebrate, as did the brotherhood of SAE - with champagne yet! Tina was overcome by the SAE tribute. By the way, as was reported in issue no. 9 of The Bulletin, Tom and Ed's presentation of their electronic cable producer has received quite a bit of attention from the industrial world, and they are both hoping that it will turn into sometention thing big.
Others who were present for Carnival were: Mike Messina, up from Yale Law School; Tom Bettman, who is at Harvard Med School; and John Munroe, who, as far as I know, is in Navy Flight Training at Pensacola,
I also saw Dave Wagner over the weekend, and we watched Wags' brother play hockey for the Pea Greens. Wags is in his final year at Tuck, and is thinking about law school for next fall. I ran into Jon Greene too, who is a Master's candidate at Thayer School.
I also had a chance to chat with HarrisSaxon over the weekend. Sax graduates in March, and will work for an oil firm until he starts graduate work in geology in the fall.
Away from the Green scene there is other news. On January 8 Russ Capelle was married to Miss Pamela Gooch in Hanover. Pam is a senior at Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing, and Russ is an ensign aboard the "U.S.S. Winston." Incidentally, this wedding urines my unofficial — and it's very unofficial because I only know what I hear of - '65 'marriage count to 83. Of course this number will increase rapidly, for the engagement announcements continue to pour in - it looks like a busy summer ahead:
Doug Leitch's engagement to Miss Dorothy Gross has been announced by her parents Doug is studying for his Masters decree in geography at the Univ. of Colorado, while his fiancee attends the Univ. of Denver.
Jim Howe has become engaged to Miss Rebecca Diller (Vassar '65). Both Jim and Rebecca are studying at Tufts - Jim at the Med School, and Rebecca working on her Master's.
Tim Bryant and Miss Sabine Nuyken have become engaged. Tim is a first lieutenant with the U S. Army in Korea. His fiancee is associated with the Bank of America in Seoul, Korea.
Jim Hamilton's engagement to Miss Laurie Goodwin has also recently been announced. Laurie is a graduate of the Univ. of Rhode
This summer Pete Morrissette will marry Miss Sherlyn Berg of Amarillo, Texas. Pete is at Boston College Law School, while Sherlyn is a dietetic intern at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard L. Class of Allennounced. town, Pa., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Karen, to Rex Roberts. Karen is a senior at Colby J.C. this year, and Rex is in his first year at Vanderbilt Law.
Roger Snyder has become engaged to Miss Lee Kelsey (Newark State College). Roger is now working toward his Master's at Syracuse Univ.
Les Pratt's engagement to Miss Diane Dussault (Univ. of Vermont '65) has been announced by her parents. The last I had heard Les was waiting to be enrolled in the U.S. Navy Officers Candidate School at Newport, R. I.
I've recently received two very interesting pieces of mail from overseas. The first came from Phil Edgerton, who was stationed in Thailand with the Peace Corps. Edge reports that Ken Behar, George Bellerose, and Tony Garland are all in Thailand too, as Peace Corps English teachers. Phil also mentioned that he had heard from Dan Corbett, who had just finished training in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and was starting six months' active duty out of San Francisco. Apparently Corbs loves California, and spent all last summer traveling throughout the state with Pierre Kisteneff.
My other letter came from Mark Nackman, who is studying for his Master's in International Relations at the London School of Economics. Mark was quite enthusiastic about the British educational system, which leaves the student a great deal of free time for independent work. In his spare time Mark has been working for the Library of the British Museum (the British equivalent of our Library of Congress). Currently he is completing research for what he hopes will be a book on "Indian Policy and Frontier Defense in Texas, 1835-1859." In fact Mark already has a publisher's approval on his abstract and is busily at work on a manuscript.
