Eleven seniors have been awarded Woodrow Wilson Fellowships for graduate study and seven others have received honorable mention, making Dartmouth second in the number of winners among 48 colleges in New England and the Maritime Provinces.
The national fellowships cover tuition and fees for the first year of graduate school, plus $2,000 for living expenses and extra allowances for children. The foundation was established in 1945 through grants from the Ford Foundation to encourage future teachers by supporting their graduate work.
The award winners are: Richard J. Dellamora '66, Detroit, Mich., English literature; Charles H. Donahue '66, West Roxbury, Mass., philosophy; William C. Dowling Ill '66, Warner, N. H., English; Richard A. Firtel '66, South Orange, N. J., biology; Andrew W. Lewis '65, Savannah, Ga., medieval history; L. Taylor Ollmann '66, Wantagh, L. 1., N. Y., mathematics; Gerald G. Paul '66, Forest Hills, L. 1., N. Y., political science; Michael M. Ransmeier '66, Concord, N. H., political science; David T. Slaney '66, Pawtucket, R. I., political science; Charles W. Thayer '66, Springfield, Vt., paleontology; and David R. Weber '65 Danbury, Conn., English literature.
