The schlump went by fairly quickly this year and now Hanover is at its best. Each day, another few rows of brick creep up the side of the new Hanover Inn under the watchful eyes of all the lunch hour superintendents. It'll be several more weeks before things are in full bloom, but the usual array of sights and sounds exist - softballs in the air, sunbathers, whining motor bikes, bermuda shorts, and colorful noise from open dorm windows. There's even a little news.
Marsh and Marty Chrostowski are out in Wisconsin where Marsh has taken a break from graduate school geography courses to teach that subject at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. George Seielstad and family arrived in Hanover a month or so ago for the spring term during which George will be a Visiting Professor in the Physics Department. He had a great reunion with Max! Back in January, Lee Wilson took the oath as Deputy Attorney General down in New Jersey. He had been an assistant in the State Division of Law. Lee, his wife, Judy, and son, Andrew, live in East Orange. Bob Monahan was awarded the Weldon Medal for outstanding achievement in pulp and paper technology by the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association.
Ken and Ellie Rogers are firmly settled in Hanover now and Ken has been working with us here in the Admissions Office for several months. They have been in Burma with the State Department for a number of years, and recently in Washington, D. C. Ken joined the office at a time when admissions work is at its most cutthroat stage, so he was fully initiated rather quickly. The Rogers have also been introduced to the Emmet life by Scott and SallyPalmer who have already had them out knocking down old beams in their barn and building sheep pens. I guess you could say their barn will soon become "lambinated."
Gerry Scott was recently transferred by IBM to Philadelphia as a representative on the Pennsylvania Railroad Account. Tibor Sogor is a member of the Romance Language Department at Syracuse University as well as a graduate student there. The next six months hold several big events for Dr. Roger Miller. He's getting married and going in the Army among other things. At the present time he's residing down in Baltimore, Maryland. Dick Forster writes that his residence in ophthalmology down in Miami is keeping him mighty busy. AlanHurlbut is presently in Denmark and will remain there for another three years. He doesn't say what he's doing.
Bill Boyle took time to write a letter bringing us up to date on his life. He says he was not married in Corpus Christi, Texas, as I stated he was in a recent column, but happened through that lively town shortly after his wedding. The marriage actually took place in New York City. Bill and Susan are now in Italy where he is doing a three-year hitch as a pediatrician at an Army base just five miles south of Pisa. I thought I'd tell you the truth. All that stuff about his working on the Leaning Tower of Pisa which I noted last month sounds pretty corny in retrospect. Naturally, they spend all their free time skiing in the Alps. Bill mentions that before leaving the States he heard from Ed Noll who is still single and teaching math in a small private school outside of Philadelphia. He says that Bruce Kalom got married last June to a girl whose name he can't remember and is presently working for the law department of the Aetna Life Insurance Company down in Hartford, Connecticut. I assume that Bruce will now tell me his wife's real name. (This column is subsidized by the CIA.) Bill's final comment about Italy is that soap and central heating are not too common.
Dr. Alan Robbins has been appointed to the staff of Tufts New England Medical Center where he will finish his residency in radiology in June. The appointment becomes effective July 1. Right under my nose at one of the high schools I cover for admissions is Bob Johnson. He's teaching French and directing the language labs at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut. He and Ailene just built a new house on two acres down in Fairfield, Connecticut. Their first child, Matthew Robert, was born on September 14, 1966. Kent and Barb Neilson are living in Scotia, New York, where Kent is on the corporate auditing, staff of General Electric.
Walt Topham sent along a few lines concerning his experiences in the last few years. After three years in the Navy he joined Haskins & Sells Certified Public Accountants down in Boston and recently passed the CPA exam. He and Pat live in Methuen, Mass., and have two children, David and Kris. He says that he was not able to make Lee Larsen's wedding but is still searching diligently for a present.
That's about the end of the line for now. Don't forget the Alumni Fund. I concur heartily with Randy Malin's recent comment. Responsibility seems to make itself known at an increasing rate each day.
