I feel like an old horse in the home stretch. The Class of 1972 is just about sewn up, and one more column after this one and we can all take a rest. I guess everyone has been out raking his lawn, because there isn't much news this time.

George Hess wrote a very nice letter recently. He and Betsy have three fine sons and he reports that his shoe business down in Baltimore has grown steadily. The way my kids go through shoes - I ought to be in the business myself. Russ Hjerpe writes that he and Judy pulled up stakes in Illinois and moved to Cincinnati where he is District Manager in the Cincinnati office of the Fafnir Bearing Company. They have a daughter, Kimberley, and a son, Kent, who are getting used to new school situations. See you in Cincinnati next fall, I hope, Russ. Rob Brown, Director of Program Promotion at WCCO Radio in Minneapolis, as I announced a while ago, has been elected to associate membership in the Public Relations Society of America. How can we promote public relations in the admissions trade where we can never make everyone happy, Rob? Down Concord, Mass., way, Ted Bachelder has been elected vice president of Boston Fund, a large, balanced mutual fund. Formerly, he had been with Allstate Insurance Company, and the Northern Trust Company.

An April wedding joined Ed Raleigh and Jean White, who became engaged back in February. Ed is presently employed by the DuPont Company having done graduate work at Cornell and post-doctoral work in Germany at the University of Cologne. Jean teaches in the DuPont School District down in Delaware.

Wells Langbehn has been promoted to the position of supervisor in the bond department at the St. Louis, Mo., Casualty and Surety Division Office of the Aetna Life and Casualty Company. Boy, that's a mouthful. What it boils down to is that he wants you to live a long life, pay your premiums and stay in your lane with your seat belt fastened. The Langbehns live just outside of St. Louis in Kirkwood, Mo. Terry Ceranski is an Air Force Flight Surgeon once again. He says that after six months as a civilian doing his general practice residency in Buffalo, he missed the flying and joined the 107 Air National Guard Unit at Niagara Falls. A week later, it was activated! I thought such things only happened to Snoopy and Charlie Brown. Joe Goodwin writes that he married Anne Burke back in October of '66 down in St. Petersburg, Fla. They had their first child, Juliet Mary, in December of '67. Joe is presently working at the National Geographic Society as a writer for their children's magazine and as a producer of educational filmstrips.

In the class business department, the good news is that Ray Becker will serve as Reunion Chairman for our 10th Reunion to take place a year from this coming June. Somehow, I thought we'd never get any older than we were at our fifth, but here we are a year away from the ten-year mark. Ray is a great man for the job. Living down in the Boston area and having participated in as many class activities as he has, his ability to enlist help from classmates and get to Hanover now and then should be invaluable. I know he can count on the contingent here in Hanover to help lay some of the ground work.

As a warm-up for reunion. Randy Malin and his illustrious cabinet have decided to embark on a program of regional gatherings for the class this June. You should be hearing more about the specific date from your regional chairman as well as from Ray Becker and John Ferries in the newsletter. At this point, the safest bet would be to place large Xs on your calendar for the middle weekends in June. We are hoping that this will provide good fun for classmates with a minimum of travel and exnense and also engender some spirit for the tenth a year from now which might cause whole groups to organize and make the big trek So, keep the dates open until things become final and start laying some pennies away for the really big show in '69 - our tenth and the College's bicentennial. The fact that the two coincide should make it a must for everyone.
