Virtually all of New England is "snow country" as I pen these lines on the fourth day of January. Although our region holds no monopoly on the white stuff, or on the sub-zero temperatures of the past few days I must confess a preference to cranking out this column over cranking up the snowblower, although it's a temptation to toboggan or skate in our back yard area rather than to find out how well this typewriter can spell on this wintery afternoon.
A most interesting article from the "Tulsa World" concerning Rev. John G. Gammie was forwarded by John L. Ferguson '15. John, who is assistant professor of religion at the University of Tulsa, has done extensive research work on Old Testament matters, including the presentation of original research papers to the Society of Biblical Literature; the most recent one, concerning the background of Deuteronomy, recently was read at the national SBL meeting in New York City. John holds graduate degrees from Union Theological Seminary and Scotland's University of Edinburgh; his research, including a fellowship awarded by TU last summer for a project at the University of Chicago, accounts for changes of address reported in recent columns. Prof. Philip R. Pearson's recently reported Providence, R. 1., address of 1158 Smith Street involves his association with Rhode Island College, where he is beginning a new course in ecology. Phil taught at Temple University for four years before moving to Providence.
From the Wall Street Journal comes the announcement that Frank L. Harrington Jr. has been named the group executive of the insurance group of Avco Corporation, and is slated to become a vice president and director of Avco. This appointment involves the recent acquisition of the Paul Revere Corp., a holding concern which includes the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, of which Frank is president.
