The holiday season sparkles. The snow cover is thin, but the cold preserves it, pristine and white. It crunches, even here in the metropolitan New York area where no one understands the magic of the crunch of feet on snow. The prelude promises a bright new year. May yours be.
Without further dalliance, the time for football reveries being over, on to the news.
The Shawmut Bank of Boston lost a senior vp when Phil See joined the Arlington Trust Company in the same capacity. Phil's new office is in Lawrence, Mass., where he rules over the destiny of the mighty and the meek as the commercial lending officer. He has been in banking since leaving Tuck in '51 and deserting the mountains of Vermont for the beaches of the Cape. He is a member of several banking associations, including Robert Morris Associates. Phil and Peggy reside in Marblehead with two youngsters.
After joining American Hospital Supply in 1953, a stint in the navy having intervened, Jim Vail meandered to Columbus, Ohio, (sales rep) and Charlotte, N.C., (distribution manager) before returning to home base in Chicago (director of training). With that background Jim has now been appointed manager of employee services for the corporation, a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of health care products. He serves on the board of overseers at the Dartmouth Medical School and the board of visitors of Davidson College. Jim was recently elected vice chairman of the board of directors of the Advanced Management Institute in Lake Forest, where he and Peggy live with their three sons, including Foster '78.
Back in Vermont, Dean Witter & Co. has opened an office in Burlington under the management of George Singer. Instead of Tuck, George opted for the Wharton School before plunging into the securities scene in New York. In 1971 the lures of a peaceful countryside, clean air, and skiing prevailed, and he left for the North Country. He is a member of the Rotary Club, vp of the Lake George Association, and a trustee of the Eastern Amateur Ski Educational Foundation. Son Bob '76 lettered in alpine skiing. George and Gloria also have two daughters.
In his spare time the owner and prexy of Great World, Inc., a sporting goods firm in West Simsbury, Conn., founded a lacrosse program for youths from ten to college age. CulModisette's dedication was rewarded with the U.S. secondary school Man-Of-The- Year Award from the Lacrosse Coaches Association. Part of the citation read that Cul "... won hands down' among nominations from all parts of the country, including the hotbeds of lacrosse in Long Island, Maryland, and Virginia. The award was based upon his personal dedication to the sport and to young people. One tangible outcome of his work was the high school's first lacrosse team, comprised primarily of players from his program."
Gleanings from Where, oh where: Severin"Sev" Stega remains as an engineer in Maryland. His family includes a son (medical school) and daughter (college). Once an avid duplicate bridge player, Sev now spends his time touring the Chesapeake with his wife on their Irwin 32.5 (if that's the right classification). Evidently sailors have more fun.
Tidbits here and there: having become fascinated by medical education, Dave Fink left the U of Maine after 19 years to become director of education at the York (Pa.) Hospital, thereby to challenge MD's with his Ph.D. Down under in Australia Jim McCrum was visited from up over by Dick Wallace. Jim toured the homeland on a brief return trip this summer. Jim Farmer met Don Russell at the annual meeting of the American College of Radiology in D.C. last spring. On his way to the start of a cross-country bicycle jaunt Chuck Martin stopped to see fellow photographer Tom Green, sometime prof of physics, who is doing spectacular outdoor and scenic work. From Oregon Dan Schausten reports that his godson, son of ex-roomie George Carpenter, is an 'BO. The reasons are obscure but Glenn Fitkins, BobWilkinson, and Phil "W" Brown convened at Mt. Holyoke last June. Jim Birney has settled at the Bishops Whipple Schools, leaving Buffalo for Faribault, Minn.
Where, oh where, are: the crew who heeded the call and ventured into the wild, wild west: Steve Mahoney to New Mexico; Bob Oliver to Arizona; Rog Simmons and Lenny Stein to California; and Bob O'Hara to Montana.
The sands have run their course. It is time to leave. Until tomorrow. And tomorrow. Cheers.
