The freshman basketball team, after a slow start, evened its record at 3-3 with wins over Middlebury, 62-59, and Norwich by a walloping 91-53 margin. In an earlier contest they allowed a 10-point lead to slip away as St. Michael's downed them 72-61 in Burlington, Vt. Most recently, the Little Indians fought the Harvard freshmen to an overtime tie, only to lose in the final seconds by calling time out after their allotted number had been exhausted, thus giving the Little Crimsons the win on a technical, 73-71.

Coach Grant Standbrook's frosh hockey squad has begun to fulfill his early season expectations, winning three of their last four games before falling to Harvard 8-4. Standing 4-3 overall, the Pea Green skaters dropped decisions to Yale, 5-4, and the Harvard JV's, 4-3, then ripped out wins over talented Boston College 5-4, New Hampshire 11-5, and Norwich 4-2. The victory over B.C. was especially indicative, for the '71s were down 4-1 at the close of the first period.

The freshman swimmers remain unbeaten after downing Brown 61-31, St. Mary's High, Greenwich, Conn., 58-37, and Springfield 71-20. Closest to an even match was the practice session with St. Mary's which the Pea Green won in fine form. Right now Coach Ron Keenhold has his squad working hard to polish their starts, turns, and style to gain important seconds. Fastest learner on the squad may be Tom Morgan of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, who set a new Dartmouth freshman mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with 2:22.96.
