The varsity netmen raced through a stiff schedule this spring for an excellent 12-7 final summary. The Big Green, led by a rapidly maturing Captain Skip Croninger, turned the trick on inexperience and youth to gain some major victories enroute. Bouncing back from a 9-0 trouncing by Princeton, the Green surprised a strong M.I.T. squad 7-2 at Cambridge. Following a similar victory over Cornell's Big Red, Coach Kenfield's charges dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Brown, decided in the final doubles match. One of the season's major tests resulted in an 8-1 loss to recently crowned Eastern tennis champion Harvard. The Crimson found themselves in trouble in every match, but managed successfully to hold off a determined Indian squad. Sophomore Geoff Dyer registered the only Dartmouth point with a singles win. It is difficult to keep from feeling over-enthusiastic about the tennis team's fortunes next year. Several surprising victories this spring, as well as the return of key performers, promise a pronounced tennis revival on the Dartmouth campus. Sophs Geoff Dyer and Jock McKernan will both be back to form a solid nucleus for Coach Kenfield, who enjoyed singular success in developing his team this season.
Dolph Highmark has been the mainstayof the pitching staff that has been thebasis for much of this year's success.
