Hoo-boy! Another month rolls around and here's old C.B. unprepared again. Fortunately, I'm in receipt of Br'er Barto's monthly scribbling. In it, in case you missed it, he reports no report from the big New York pre-reunion kickoff. Me too! I didn't make it because I was out of town and I haven't got a good report on it yet. But I'm sure they made a good start on the big June Magilla.
If you're like me you probably haven't been struck with the urgency of the requests to get your reservations in early. It does seem like a long time off, but you know that time creeps up on you. So let us all make our resolutions to get the reserves in soon. I am!
Actually I'm sitting in my hotel in Detroit writing this and for the past three days I've been trying to get hold of William VhayMurphy. Finally talked to Gayle, his wife, who modestly informed me that the Murphys are adding to their family before too long. Murph was in Washington - I assume getting the straight low-down from Uncle Senator Murphy but I didn't get to that.
The only new news I have (assuming you read John Barto more regularly than this) has to do with one of our ex-patriate classmates. The "Baltimore Sun" has just .recently opened a new foreign bureau. This one's in Paris and the chief of that bureau is Tom Fenton. Tom was previously the chief of the Sun's Rome bureau. Last summer Tom wrote all the firsthand reports on the Arab-Israeli war. He's been with the Sun since he was discharged from the Navy in 1961 and had been in Rome since 1966.
Another ex-patriate is Lee Prior who is in Madrid and has been for nearly three years. He's there with B. F. Goodrich International. Lee says he enjoys Spain more than he did Pakistan which was his last assignment.
From oP Rufe's letter: I'm a little hurt that Herb Roth, barrister, didn't let me know when his law firm of Amer, Weisman & Butler merged with Finley and Gore to become Amer, Weisman, Finley and Butler. I might even have some business for him before long.
Am also in receipt of a letter from the Hon. John J. Boyle Jr. in which he has authorized George Hibben to proceed with plans to get us all well categorized on the McBee Keyport System before reunion. If we keep it up we may be the best documented class of all.
Before I fade silently into the woodwork I wish to commend to you a movie picture written by Classmate Buck Henry (Zuckerman, that is) "The Graduate," in case you haven't seen it, is one of the great movies in many years. Needless to say it is quite funny-but funny in a way that can make you cry. See it by all means.
And, of course, if you see anything else of interest please let me know. I make this promise to you one interesting column at least before I turn over the reins this June.
Till then, hang on!
P.S. Last minute flash! Harvey Kelley is a proud father to a little girl, named Hilary, born on February 11. Hilary makes #3 for the Kelleys. Best wishes, Harvey, and I hope you get a little bit of sleep.
