Not much news for this issue. The Big Green had a disappointing season but you can be sure they will come back strong next year. Joe Barnett reports that hurricane "Gladys" came very close to Clearwater but caused very little damage in the area. They lost about 150 unripe grapefruit - that's all. Bill Gumbart writes that he had a very pleasant visit with Elmer Tucker in August at Weekapaug, R.I. Elmer's daughter and his daughter were both summering there. The family is in good shape. Pop Avery sent greetings to all who attended the fall Pow Wow. They couldn't make it and he says: "We shall have to stretch the one last June out toward '73. He's off these modern pens. Pop says that they can be dropped from planes, run over by trucks, used under water but just won't write on paper."
Bill Mason still thinks about the fine time he had at the reunion last June. Bernice and Bill had a similar delightful summer, highlighted by a visit with their daughter Jean, who came on from her home in San Francisco. They took trips to New Hampshire and Vermont and visited friends and relatives at Lake Champlain. Billy, their daughter's son, is enrolled for Dartmouth, class of 1980.
Dave Logan, 77, of 7 Harriet St., Norwalk, Conn., died on Nov. 13 in Norwalk Hospital a few days after he was admitted. Dave came from Cherry Valley, Mass., and attended Leicester Academy before entering Dartmouth with the class of 1913. He was a veteran of WWI and was one of the original members of the American Legion which he joined in France.
Dave's home was in Norwalk, Conn., where he lived for 45 years. He joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1941 and retired ten years ago. To his wife Mary and family, the Class extends its sincere sympathy. An "In Memoriam" notice will be in this issue or subsequent one.
George Davidson writes that after a delightful reunion with '13 in Hanover, he and Hattie took a leisurely two weeks driving home to Flower Ranch, visiting a few friends on the way. They stopped a week at their favorite spot in North Carolina, the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway at a refreshing altitude of 5000 ft.
