I've just tucked away in a file marked "Misc. Papers of Import" the First Day Cover envelope bearing the new Daniel Webster stamp, which was mailed from Hanover on September 22. I trust you all received one too. We don't have an avid stamp collector in the family at the moment, but most likely it will be of considerable interest to someone at a future date.

The contents of the envelope are of current interest, however, as they deal with the Third Century Fund. As the Fund enters the "general phase" another $16.7 million is needed to reach the $51 million objective. We're pleased to note the names of several '50's who are serving as Area Chairmen of the National Alumni Committee: Cal Bauer in Dallas, Hugh Brower in Chicago, DickMilliken in Los Angeles, and Jim Jones in Seattle.

We're also pleased to report that WaltBaranetsky's son Nicholas graduated from Dartmouth this past June; Nick plans to study medicine. Walt is a vice president of the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, where he is in charge of the bank's business in South America. He, Christina and their second son, Adrian, who now is a high school senior, live at 71 Collinwood Road in Maplewood, N. J.

It's an equal pleasure to report that Robert C. Kelly's son Stanley also graduated with the Class of 1969. Stan did very well on his Law Board examinations, and presently is working in a law office prior to entering law school in February. Bob and Lou's second son, Ken, is a member of the Class of 1972. The Kellys live at 565 Park Avenue, New York City; Bob is senior vice president of the Lennan & Newall advertising agency.

Dr. Philip H. Chase has been named to the new position of director, administrative services division of the Professional Products Group by the Warner-Lambert Pharmaceutical Company of Morris Plains, New Jersey. Phil, who received advanced degrees in psychology from the University of Colorado, joined Warner-Lambert in 1968.

A note just received from Ben and JoyShaver indicates that their sailing season on the Shrewsbury River in New Jersey was a relatively short one, for Goodyear enticed the breadwinner of the family to the midwest. The Labor Day weekend found the Shavers en route to their new residence at 544 Merriman Road, Akron, Ohio 44303. It will be a somewhat longer trek for them to attend the Harvard game, but Marlene and I expect to sip a few sours with them and Gordon and Betsy Pinkham in accordance with a long-established custom. The game should be a dandy; at this writing the Big Green should be favored, having rung up 111 points against but 12 for the opposition in the scrimmage with Boston College and the first two games of the regular season.

However, that statistical spread may be deceptive, for New Hampshire lost a key offensive player early in its game, and Holy Cross came onto the field minus seven of its first team due to injuries and illness. The Class' Executive Committee will be in the stands to see Dartmouth's Ivy League opener against Pennsylvania, which probably will be a much closer contest. The Committee will have its annual meeting that Saturday morning. High on the agenda will be a report by Gerry Sarno and some of his key men on the progress being made for our Twentieth Reunion. I'll report more about that next month.

I don't know whether Paul Canada has the duty of publicizing the fates and fortunes of the Fighting Irish gridiron forces this year, but we understand that Notre Dame is one of the college and university clients of his New Canaan, Conn., based firm, Ivy Graphics. A number of N.D.'s publications receive the benefit of the firm's design and layout talents.

The Master Printers Section of the Printing Industries of America awarded seven Certificates of Craftsmanship to employees of The Stinehour Press, a firm in Lunenburg, Vt., which has been operated by Rod Stinehour since its inception in 1950.

Bob Foster, vice president of the Ralph S. Foster Co. in Fitchburg, Mass., and a resident of Concord, has been accepted as a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers.

Bob Lindell has been transferred three countries southward by The Chase Manhattan Bank N.A. Formerly in Brussels, he now is in the bank's office in Piazza Medical, Milan, Italy.

John Morton's European address has been changed from an APO number of the IBM Corp. to Poortlaan 36, Wassenaar, The Netherlands. That community is a northern suburb of The Hague.

Professor David B. Davis is spending the 1969-70 academic year as the Harmsworth Professor at Oxford University in England. He also has changed Ivy League affiliations, leaving Cornell to accept the position of professor in the Department of History, Yale University, 206 Elm Street, New Haven, Conn. 06520.

Dick Ceely has been transferred to Michigan by the Market Forge Company after spending three years in the Minneapolis area with this medical industry firm. 2540 Gladstone Avenue, Ann Arbor, Mich. 48104 is the new residence of Dick, Shirley, David and Janet.

Meanwhile Jim Nye has gone to Minneapolis as regional trial attorney for the St. Paul Insurance Companies, Inc. His new address is 5712 West 68th Street, Minneapolis, Minn. 55435.

Another Massachusetts-to-the-Midwest move involves Skip Fauver. I don't have the particulars on it, but he's located at 5745 Drewry Farm Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.

Col. James M. Landrigan, USMC now is serving with the Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, FMF USMC 50 at Camp Lejeune, N. C. 28542.

John Coffman is close to the Marine Corps' western training base, Camp Pendleton, but has donned civilian clothes and now is associated with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, Inc. Jack's address is 2815 Todd Street, Oceanside, Calif. 92054.

Phil Gross also has shed his Lt. Colonel's uniform, receiving a medical discharge due to a heart problem. Upon his return from an Army assignment in Germany, with a new bride from that country, he commenced a program leading to an advanced degree in education at the University of New Hampshire.

Jim Harms has returned to the U.S. from duties with Companhia de Petroleo Chevron in Rio de Janeiro, and now is with the Chevron Oil Trading Co.; home is 93 Barchester Way, Westfield, N. J. 06890.

Our closing note this month unfortunately is a sad one, for this past month's mail included a notice of the death of James H. Maroney on September 13. Services were held in Winchester, Mass.

Enjoying a break at Alumni College are(I to r) Bill Pulley, Bob Kilmarx, andBob Waterman, all Class of 1950.
