This month, it says here, the annual list of contributors to the Alumni Fur.d will be printed with the class notes and "we therefore request that the notes be kept as concise as possible."
First of all, Rotary: Here, in the Waltham (Mass.) News-Tribune it is reported that the Waltham Rotary Club, at luncheon assembled on August 19, did hear a brief talk on the life of Henry J. Griswold, of Wellesley, Mass., given by Mr. Griswold himself. The facts of Hank's life as reported to Rotary-which were news to me and may be of news to you, are that he has become a partner in his father's public accounting firm in Boston, and is presently attending Northeastern University School of Law. The News-Trib also says that Hank's speech was delivered in the Nurse's Home of Waltham Hospital. (This is all very confusing, Henry.)
Buzz Waters has discovered how to get back to Hanover each year at company expense. The man relaxed on the village green for two whole weeks at the Institute of Credit and Financial Management, given at Tuck School last August. The rascal is in his second year, which gives him another year to go.
John Little doesn't hang his hat in Hanover, but he, too, has his own private little school bus. Johnny's chief academic accounting officer at M.I.T. Takes a Dartmouth man to look after the guzintas for them genii, what?
Society notes: Those who have sampled the Hanover air recently include: Dr. and Mrs.R. H. Clymer of Reading, Pa.; Mr. LesterSmith of Boston; Senator Stanley M. Brown of Bradford, N. H.; and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gottfredson Jr. of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; all of whom were fortunate enough to rock on the Inn porch while others worked in the feelthy cities and dirty willages.
Among those with pictures in the paper recently: Fred Tower, Boston sales manager for American Can Cos., who beamed forth from all the Boston papers with his best ground breaking look,, as he assisted at the commencement of construction of a new can rolling emporium in Needham; and counsellor FredUpton, beaming like a seraph in the midst of a family portrait of New Hampshire's new Senator Robert W. Upton, appearing in all the New Hampshire papers. Along with Fred and his father and mother and brothers and nieces and nephexvs, were his three handsome children, Katherine, 3; Mark, 6; and Robert, 9. Missing from the picture were Mrs. Upton, and Fred's brand new son John, who was the cause of Mrs. Upton's absence. (This information was supplied by the caption writer, not by Fred, who never tells anyone anything.)
If you, too, want to know what's wrong with football in Hanover, ask any of the following gentlemen: Gordon King, who was seen at the Holy Cross game by the Milford (Mass.) Independent; or Larry Vulte, Bob McLeod, EdWakelin, or Bert MacMannis, who were seen at the Yale game by Dusty Rohde; or DonWheaton, Bob Dickgeisser, Dr. Mac MacGilpin or Duke Lyon, who also were seen at Yale, but by Whit Cashing. You might also ask Paul I saw him at the Bowl with my own eyes.
Bro. Cushing advises that all the people he relates having seen, together with their wives, Ginger W., Mary D., Jean McG., and Julie L., had themselves a real milk-and-song£est at Duke's place in Woodbridge, Conn., after the game. Whit also reports that he presently is back home in Newtonville, Mass., prior to his annual peerade to Florida in January. While he's still around, don't forget that the class Whistler will appear, Crayolas in hand, at the homes of any of you who may wish to have portraits painted. Why not obtain a likeness of yourself for Christmas giving to your Board of Directors or your mother-in-law this year?
Others who have been getting around are Phil Wentworth, at Dartmouth Night at the Dartmouth Club of New York last month, Jack Haverfield and Bill McCarthy■ at the soiree at the same club following the Columbia game. They, however, confessed to not having seen the game, due to the rather in clement weather conditions prevailing over the metropolitan area that day.
That ends the pile. Next month I can make things up out of my head.
