I write this the last column of the academic year while recuperating from a very active, exciting, and enlightening Class Officers' weekend in Hanover. Walt Vail will report to you in greater depth on it in the newsleţer. Let me only say that the problems on the campus are difficult and complex; the administration has kept open channels of communication with all groups and k doing everything in its power to resolve all points of conflict. President Dickey and his associates are living with the situation 24 hours a day and are staying on top of every development. They deserve our admiration, confidence, trust, and sympathy. It is only too easy to make a rash judgment or offer a simple solution based on some unfair or one-sided press coverage.
On the"lighter side your class was represented by our President Dick Frisch and his wife Donna Lee; Class Agent Bob Eleveld, and his wife Lynn; Newsletter editor Walt Vail and wife Scottie; and Jane and me. In addition to the scheduled activities we all managed to squeeze in some mixed doubles taking advantage of some fine Hanover weather. We did some fraternity hopping both nights getting some insight into student attitudes and taking some comfort in the fact that most of these guys arent much different than we were other than perhaps possessing a greater awareness of the world around them. Dave and Ann Bradley joined us after Saturday night's class dinner at the Norwich Inn and some of us ended up back at their house talking until the wee hours. Dave and his law firm represent the College on the legal front so we were able to get yet another viewpoint of Dartmouth's problems.
During the weekend it was decided to create the position of Class Program Chairman to set up and coordinate a program of social events primarily for the fall football season and hopefully for other times during the year. We hope to join with the class of '57 in some combined football weekend parties both in Hanover and away. There will be more on this in the early fall.

I received a nice letter from Lin Hall postmarked Da Nang, South Viet Nam. You may remember that Lin was plucked out of civilian life to serve in the Navy over there. He writes: "Life is relatively easy here and the local beach is outstanding. I met Don Moday in Hong Kong in March where he works for Alcoa.... The year on active duty with the Navy hasn't been all that bad. Besides seeing this part of the world and getting a promotion to Lt. Commander, I feel I have a much greater understanding of the Far East and our role in its future affairs. I feel there's tremendous potential in this country and in the South Vietnamese, but things do move slowly in a developing Eastern country. Tremendous advancements have been made in this area in the last or so, and I wish the news media would only give equal time to all the good that is being done by the U.S."
