Spring has sprung finally here in New England. The grass is turning green and barring any sneak snow storms I'll be back cutting it in a few more weeks. One sign of spring around here is the annual Charles River Dartmouth Club Tea Dance run very ably this year by Dave and Joanne Chapin, who were without question the "modiest" couple on the dance floor. In addition to his real estate work Dave is about to have some poetry published and is working on his first novel. Lin Hall was there, happy to be back in civilian life. He reports a new son born last February. Skip and CharlotteHarrington rounded out the '58s in attendance. Skip is finishing up work on his degree in aeronautical engineering at Boston University. Charlotte had her fourth boy back in March.

Gary Sykes has been elected a vice president of Laidlaw & Co. Inc. of New York. He is syndicate manager of the firm and continues as manager of the Bloomfield, N. J., office. He is a resident of Glen Ridge, N. J.

Dave Connell is keeping our historical heritage alive. He has been elected commodore of the Colonial Navy of Massachusetts, the state's Revolutionary War naval militia. Dave has been a staff officer of the unit for two years. He is with Mur-Con, Inc. of Fall River, Mass.

Charlie Pierce is accepting some of the challenges facing higher education today. Carl Fiellman, president of Upsala College in East Orange, N. J., has announced his appointment as executive assistant to the president.

I talked to Dick Stewart this week and found that another of our die-hard bachelors is biting the dust. Dick and Mary Virginia Conway of Chestnut Hill, Mass., will be married on May 2. Mary is a graduate of Emmanuel College and Katharine Gibbs School.

I received a nice letter from Larry Hampton expressing regrets at not being able to make our ski weekend. Larry tells me that "I am being transferred to my company's London office for a two-year tour.... Actually the assignment is quite an exciting one and I am looking forward to it eagerly. Essentially, my assignment is to build our marketing management consulting business in Europe. We are renting our house in Westport as we expect to be returning to it sometime early in 1972." Larry is with Glendinning Associates International and he will be headquartered at 9 Savoy Street, London WC2, England. He says that "the door will be open to visiting '58s."

Art Raybin has a new job - Vice President for Development and Public Relations at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He had been director of development at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, N. Y. At the New School a major part of his responsibility will be the direction of a $37-million, ten-year development program launched in conjunction with the New School's fiftieth anniversary. Wonder if he will move Elaine and their two children from Chappaqua to the "Village" to avoid commuting?

Jack Chapman has been named premolded soles and bottoming compounds manager for the Chemical Division of USM Corporation of Middleton, Mass. He will be responsible for marketing the division's eleven different styles of premolded soles.

Another newcomer to the happy institution of marriage is Herb Shapira. Herb and Harriet Koretz were married recently and are living in Framingham, Mass.

The Skip Louises are the proud parents of their second daughter, Lona Beth, born on Valentine's .Day. Their older daughter, Amy Louise, is five. Skip reports that they still live in Northbrook, Ill., and that he is still employed as Assistant General Counsel of A. B. Dick Company. Thanks for your letter, Skip, and your vote of confidence.

Jeff Strayer recently received his MBA from Babson College, here in Wellesley. After a stint in the New England territory, Jeff has been recalled to the home office of Fisher-Price Company, leading toy manufacturer with which I am sure all you parents are familiar. Jeff and Sally are now looking for a home in East Aurora, N. Y.

Joe Slotnik has recently been named a trustee of the Brookline Trust Company, Brookline, Mass. Joe is manager of the Boston office of L. F. Rothschild Co. The Slotniks have two children, Charles and Julie.

The column is short this month due to lack of mail from you. It is your voice and as strong as you choose to make it. Don't forget the Alumni Fund. The College needs our support and deserves it.
