At this first opportunity, it is a pleasure to report on the 70th Reunion of the class of 1900. Robert Jackson was the sole representative of the class present on this memorable occasion. He and his two daughters arrived in Hanover on Thursday, and, not without some misgiving on Bob’s part, enjoyed the festivities of the Commencement season. I was told that Bob had “1900” in sizable gold figures pinned to his coat. The reunion headquarters were his room at the Hanover Inn.
In his letter, in which he gave his impressions of the Reunion, Bob says, “Scarcely entitled to be called a reunion since I was the only member of the class present. Nor was there a widow or son or daughter of a classmate present, at least so far as I was aware. Inevitably the occasion was in sharp contrast to those which had preceded it. Before, there had always been somewhat of an air of jubilation, rejuvenation, and renewal of old friendships that began when the blood danced in our veins and hopes were buoyant.”
Before Bob’s arrival on campus an enterprising reporter had gathered from the Dartmouth archives considerable informa- tion in regard to Bob’s political activities. This information appeared at Commence- ment time as a feature story in the “Valley News” and the “Daily Dartmouth.” An episode connected with this story brought a ripple of amusement to the Dartmouth campus.
