The news this month seems to be something of a travelogue. Recently Jean Hicks, daughter of Cornelius Tirrell, and her husband Tony had a most informative trip to South Africa. Their letter to me said, "We found a booming place—building everywhere, in Capetown, Durban and Johannesburg. There, problems of discrimination are openly discussed in all papers now, and real progress in education is taking place at the university level. Given no interference it looked to me as though they will make great progress in a generation or two." We sincerely hope that prediction comes true and that peace may be real peace to that long disturbed area of the world.

The second travelogue comes from Olivia Allaway, daughter of George Tong. Last summer she, her husband Bill, and her three children made an extensive tour of Europe. Each one had a definite picture of what he saw and felt. Bill Jr. (16) sums it up this way: "The hardest part of any trip is leaving but once you're gone, you're really gone. Paris... driving... cathedrals ... driving... chateaux... driving... castles... driving... the Riviera... driving... medieval cities... driving... Lausanne... driving... Zurich... driving... Innsbruck... driving... Salsburg, castles... driving... Vienna, Reitschule (Spanish Riding School)... driving... Dubrovnik, beaches... Venice, Padova... driving... Paris... boat-train to London... explored subways... on the plane... MADE IT HOME. WHOO!"

Clark University reports the dedication on October 16, 1971 of the $1.2 million Ruth Dodd Hall for women. The inscription reads: "Ruth Dodd Hall, in honor of Ruth Esleeck Dodd (1881-1965), devoted friend of Clark students. University benefactor, humanitarian and wife of Dr. Loring Holmes Dodd. Dedicated in her memory by Loring H. Dodd, professor of rhetoric, esteemed member of Clark's faculty 1911-1950 and respected teacher, who provided in part the funds which made this building possible."
