We recently received from Doug Ley an impressive photograph, taken at a Palm Beach Gala, of Bunkie Knudsen and Clint Frank (Yale '38), who are honorary trustee and trustee, respectively, of the Eye Research Institute. They are longtime friends.
Cam Duncan reports from deep in the heart of Texas that he gets a good feeling reading the DAM and the Tear Bag, except for hearing about those no longer with us. Frank"Bill" Adams sent Christmas greetings. Lowie Haas gave us full reports about son Fred '73 and a new album entitled "Almost Blue," recorded by The Ritz. Young Fred travels all over the world with his band.
Norm Henshaw, who matriculated with us but graduated in '36, kindly sent a clipping from the Tacoma News Tribune about Governor Gardner's appointment of Fred Haley as a trustee of the Evergreen State College in recognition of Fred's many efforts to improve educational programs in Washington.
Dud Russell gave us a full report of the trip he and Bette'took after the mini-reunion last fall. They visited the site of Bunny Bertram's first ski-tow in Woodstock, then on to Dartmouth's Moosilauke Ravine Lodge and lunch at the base station of the Mt. Washington cog railroad with Alex McKenzie '32 and wife Barbie. Almost 60 years have intervened since Dud and the late Sandy Brown were forced to spend a couple of nights storm-bound with Mac in the Mt. Washington observatory cabin.
The Specht twins have sent a letter to the DAM in which they note the decision of the College administration to discontinue ROTC at Dartmouth unless the Defense Department changes its policy which bans homosexuals from the program. They say that until the College reverses its decision they will not give to the newly mounted capital campaign. It seems a shame that such a decision taken by the College may well result in the loss of a number of outstanding students at the same time alienating many loyal alumni supporters.
On a more cheerful note, George Hoke sent along the latest edition of A MinnesotaDoctor's Home Remedies for Common and Uncommon Ailments, by JohnE. Eichenlaub,M.D. At our rather advanced ages this probably should be required reading.
