A very successful meeting of the class executive committee was held in Hanover on October 17. I do not have all of the details yet, but I can report that again we were assigned the "Bird Room" in Wilson Museum! Results of the Alumni Fund Drive, various aspects of the twenty-fifth reunion (1973!) and our twenty-fifth year gift to the College were discussed. Plans for the reunion are shaping up. Jim Randolph, publisher of "Business Week," has agreed to take charge of our twenty-fifth year book. This is a tremendous task and we are fortunate to have someone with Jim's experience undertake the job.
Congratulations to Bob Huke, Professor of Geography at the College, who has been named head of the department. Bob has been on the faculty since 1963 after returning from the Philippines.
I recently had the good fortune to attend the Harvard game. We sat on the Harvard side using tickets obtained by a Harvard grad, class of '06, which meant the thirty yard line in the colonnades. Probably as close to mid-field as we'll ever get.
Dick Greene was at the game. His good wife Lynn was absent having just produced child number three, Richard Douglass, born October 23, 7 pounds 19 inches. Congratulations to both Dick and Lynn! This is the first 1970 baby for the class and Dick may well take the coveted trophy awarded by the executive committee to '48 Athlete of the Year!
Also saw Jack Mahoney at the game, lack and Marilyn were up from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for a week of school and were able to get to their first Harvard game in many years. Jack is an orthopedic surgeon and has his own group practice in Fort Lauderdale. He and Marilyn spent two weeks skiing at Vail, Colo., last year—he gets more skiing than we who live in the snow country. They own a motor home and took the family to Wyoming last summer and spent some time on a dude ranch near the Tetons.
It was good to hear from Earl Chambers. Earl is a vice president of Marine Midland Banks in the capital and estates management division in New York City. He is living in Riverside, Conn., and has a daughter Sarah in Greenwich High School as a senior.
Congratulations to our good class treasurer, Pete Foster, who has been appointed general personnel planning supervisor for Southern New England Telephone Company. Pete has been general personnel supervisor and has been directing the management job evaluation project since 1969. He has had various positions with the Telephone Company since 1948, and he and Anne live in Wallingford. Three children, age 12 to 18, one or more horses, and an interest in Vermont real estate keep Pete busy.
Jehn Gustafson spoke recently on "Pollution" to the New York State Federation of Bird Clubs, Inc. John is a professor of Biology and chairman of the Biology Department at the State University of New York, Courtland. In addition to other outside activities he is past president of the Courtland County Bird Club.
Howard Cook, vice president in charge of marketing of Y and C Candies, Inc., was recently in Farmington, N. M., for the opening of a local plant. Howard has been in the candy industry since leaving college. He was first associated with the company in 1958 and was elected to his present position in 1969. Howard and Elaine live in Woodbury, Long Island, with three sons, ages 14 to 20.
