By the time this goes to print, we will be in the midst of the season when "... the great white cold walks abroad ...” and Winter Carnival will be approaching. We note that this year's theme for the carnival, "Klondike Kaleidoscope," is better than "The Shooting of General Lew" or "Keep Kodak out of the Klondike," which we thought were being considered.

Speaking of winter, we envy Ian Macartney who apparently finds time to ski occasionally in Switzerland. Lan is general manager of Amoco (U.K.) Petroleum Co. in London and he, Carla, three sons and two daughters, ranging from age 18 to age 12, live in Kent, England. His company is involved in the search for natural gas in the North Sea and he must find living and working in England very different from his last assignment in Venezuela.

Nat. Merrill will be directing the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov" in the 1969-1970 season. The new "Boris" will be sung in the original Russian for the first time at the Met. Nat has directed many of the Met's productions but this promises to be especially challenging. Nat and Barbara Jo make their home in New York City with their son and daughter.

George and Gloria MacGillivray are living in Bethesda, Md. George is working for the government in Washington. They have three children and the family has taken up skiing in Pennsylvania. Since the advent of artificial snow, George reports that skiing is available only one hour from Bethesda. He sees Bob Munson occasionally in Washington.

Dick and Dot Dahl have a third son, Jeffrey, who arrived on November 16. Congratulations to both parents. Dick now holds the title of Most Recent Father in the Class of '48.

Jack and Marilyn Mahoney continue to thrive in Florida. Jack is an orthopedic surgeon in Fort Lauderdale and spends his spare time duck shooting, playing tennis, fishing, and boating. He and Marilyn have six children, including a baseball player and Quarterback, which sounds promising for the future. Jack obviously is a careful planner, as he arranges his winter business trips via Alta, Utah, where he said they had to stop skiing because of too much snow, and his summer vacation through New England and Nova Scoti via Dodge motorhome bus.

Dr. Walt Newman is in general practice in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Walt and Margaret live in Wilkes-Barre with their three children. Walt is involved in several community activities being a school director and honorary chairman of the local Disabled American Veterans Forget-Me-Not Drive.

Dave Karukin has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel by the Marine Corps and will be reassigned to U.S.M.C. headquarters in Washington, D. C. Dave and Vivian have been in Bangkok, Thailand, where he has been serving as an intelligence advisor and liaison officer with the U. S. Military Assistance Command.

Dick Donahue, a partner in the law firm of Donahue and Donahue in Lowell, Mass., has been named to head the 1968 March of Dimes for the Merrimack Valley. This area includes 47 communities so Dick will have his hands full. Dick and Nancy have nine children and he is also very active in both community and professional activities including serving as a delegate on the Board of Delegates of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
