The new Executive Committee held its first meeting on the evening of October 9 in Granby, Mass. Granby happens to be the home of Tom and Dorla Brock, who were gracious enough to host the meeting and to provide dinner and spirits for the ten men and wives in attendance. The next Newsletter will carry details, but briefly, we learned that the Class was solvent and will remain so if enough of us will send in our $8.00 annual dues. Dick Harrison was named our new head class agent and is already at work formulating plans for 1971. The above mentioned Newsletter will hereafter get first class mailing so that we can get Gene Kohn's latest news quicker.
The next morning broke warm and clear, and it was off to Hanover to watch the Green stomp the Tigers, thus partially atoning for last year's disaster. Quite a few '60's, aside from the usual Hanover contingent, were seen in the stands. Zoo Gazely was there sans bearcoat, but with just as much booze even though he didn't have those great big pockets in which to hide it. Peter Holland, who is coaching crew at M.I.T., was there as was Arnie Sigler, Bruee Molinaroli, Alex Summer, and Scoops Farnsworth.
After the game was over about 80 people went to the steak dinner at the Outing Club. Some of those in attendance were Paul Boeker, Elliot Carr, Mike Daley, Pete Hawks, who with wife Bobbie, are in the travel business, Phil Kron, Jim Townsend, Nat Gorton, Bob Messner, a lawyer with G. C. Murphy Co. in Pittsburgh, Dud Smith, etc. There was some question if George "Roadrunner" Rush and Skip Eveleth would make it back to Boston in George's car. It was learned two weeks later at Harvard that they did get stuck and had to finesse their way back.
Despite the fact that the Harvard game was on TV, we had over forty class members in Cambridge last Saturday. Bob Caulfield is back in New York with CBS sales. Bob had been with the Group "W" station in Boston. Dr. Bob Prouty has opened his practice in pediatrics in Hingham, Mass. He and Mary are both from that area and are very happy in their new location. Down the road in Marshfield we find Harry Bruckner, who is a combination editor and business expert for McGraw Hill. Win Robinson is with Container Corp. of America and is living in Acton. Eric Anderson came down from Brattleboro where he is practicing law. The Andersons hosted a lovely brunch the Sunday after the Princeton game. Also at the game were Jim Progin, Tom Franklin, Mike McCinnes, John Benson, Bob Cary, Norris Knosher, Dick Armknecht, Mickey Strauss, etc. etc. Don Stoddard missed the game for the first time in memory as he was hospitalized with a very nasty virus. A get-well card was circulated through the class section and given to Spence Morgan for delivery.
Enough of football news. Al Friedman informed me that he and Chuck Kaufman played on the championship team in the Great Neck Softball league this past summer. Both need new homes to house the three-foot trophies. Both Al and Chuck are active in recruiting for Dartmouth in the Long Island area. Funny, but everyone they like can play a good game of basketball.
„ Dave Sendler is editor-in-chief of Pageant" Magazine, after being associated with another periodical in the sports field. Bill Scher has his own beauty supply business in New Rochelle. Dave Hodson also is in New York. Dave works for Pan Am but commutes to London on business quite regularly. If that's not enough, Dave is still single and I would gather he has the world on a string. Some guys have all the luck.
John Adams is back in the Wall Street area where he calls on brokerage houses for Banker's Trust. John has been working uptown for the same firm for some time. Another banker, Jacque Sohm, has been promoted to vice-president in the New York Office of the First National Bank of Chicago. Jack has been with the bank since 1963 and lives in Croton-on-Hudson, which is a stone's throw up the river from our house in Ossining.
Dr. Sanford Berens has joined Radiology Associates in Savannah, Ga. Sandy received his M.D. from Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine at Halifax, Nova Scotia, interned in Halifax, served a three-year residency at King's County in Brooklyn, and was chief of radiology at the U. S. Army Hospital at Redstone Arsenal, Ariz. If you're passing through Savannah and need a chest x-ray, look up Sandy.
Borden Powers has left Fun City for Simsbury, Conn., where he is associated with the Hartford National Bank and Trust Co. Mike Heitner is part owner of a Kentucky Fried Chicken place in Westchester County. This probably explains why Mike was called on to supply the food for our outing at the Columbia game last year. You guessed it—we had fried chicken.
We have received word that EugeneReilly and Miss Joan Tiska are out to prove the old adage that two can live as cheaply as one. They were married on June 13 and spent their honeymoon in Spain and Italy. Now they are back in New York City where the bride is an executive secretary at the International Center of New York. Gene reverse commutes to White Plains where he is assistant manager of financial planning and analysis with the Maxwell House Division of General Foods.
That will do it for now. It seems odd to be extending wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year before Hallowe'en has arrived but the timing is such that it is now or never. So a cool Yule and may 1971 bring a healthier stock market.
