I just made.it back from a Florida vacation in time to meet this month's deadline. The kids had a week's vacation for G. Washington's birthday, the wife wanted to visit her father in Palm Beach, and certainly didn't want to stay home alone. To be HOnest, it was kind of nice to golf, tennis and swim under a bright sun. We even took in a sidetrip to Disney World and one could not help but be imressed with the way the place is operated. However, it's back to the reality of day to day living in Fun City.
Speaking of Fun City, there will be a mayoral election here this November and many hopefuls already have or shortly will announce their candidacy to replace "Big Bad John." One man who has already thrown his proverbail hat into the ring is Bob Postel. Bob has served on the City Council for several years and has received local acclaim for his stand and action on important issues. More later as the drama unfolds.
I received a letter from Ned Hanouer who was quick to point out that the description of his activities in an earlier column was loaded with mistakes. It seems that Ned was portrayed as representing the Israeli viewpoint at a teach-in at AIC in Springfield. In truth, Ned was speaking as an American Jewish anti-Zionist on behalf of justice for the Palestinians and against the policies - not the people - of Israel. Ned is now the executive director of Search for Justice and Equality in Palestine, a national non-sectarian organization, whose address is P.O. Box 53, Waverley, Mass. I also erroneously reported that Ned was teaching at Boston College instead of Babson College but, as he has long since left Babson, the subject is academic. Ned recently received his Ph.D. in political science from American U. and now resides in Watertown with his wife, dog, and cat.
How many lawyers do you know who have resigned from a firm just a few short months after being made a partner? Well, William Mullin did but he had good reason. Bill and his uncle haye formed the partnership of Schofield & Mullin in La Jolla, Calif., where Bill, Elizabeth, and their three children have taken up residence. After Dartmouth, Bill spent three years with the Navy, received his law degree from Harvard and joined the Chicago law firm of Kirkland, Ellis. He made partner in January, 1972 and resigned last spring to seek his fortune in that beautiful San Diego suburb.
Word has it that Tom Ettinger is working at Time, Inc. and is living at the edge of the Sound in Rowayton, Conn. Tom is doing editing and promotional work on Sports Ill's new book line and claims to be overworked, underpaid, overfed and underloved. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Tom.
Pat McLaughlin III is also living in La Jolla where he is assistant professor of Urology at the University of Calif, at San Diego. Pat laments that he has to travel a few hours to find skiing but is only a few minutes from the beach. He is chief of his own surgery service and finds the publish or perish slogan is overbearing at times.
This has been a weird winter in the East. Last year, many cities broke the record for the most rainfall and New York will break a record for the least amount of snow unless we get a good March storm. So far less than three inches have fallen and tomorrow is March 1. Small wonder then that many classmates are madly doing snow dances. The Morgans, Brocks, and Stoddards did a dance for an early February trip to Sugarbush but to no avail. They thus decided on a late February trip to Switzerland where the conditions were more favorable. Spence also attended a stag ski weekend at Alex Summer's place in Vermont along with Bill Lum, Mike McGinnis, RogerHanlon and Al Stowe. The Class took attendance honors at a one-day seminar at Princeton sponsored by the Tri-County Club (N.J.) Sam Parke,Bob Brusic, Sandy Ingham, and Spence made up our delegation.
One more wedding to report. Henry Talbot II was married to Miss Christine McKay on February 22 in New York. Henry is a member of the New York Stock Exchange as were his father and grandfather before him. His bride was a math major at Manhattanville College and is now a programming consultant with Auxton Computer Enterprises.
May all your news be good news and may it find its way to me.
