With all the sleet, snow and freezing rain that we in the north are enjoying (!), the Florida contingent of the Class of 1905 should be happy to be in a much pleasanter region.
Yet it is possible to be comfortable in the bleak north. For instance, Emily Day writes of the warmth and comfort of being beside her own fireplace. She had been invited to visit her son Emerson '34 and his family in their new home in Illinois.
Ernest ("Cy") White also writes in a cheerful manner. In spite of Hilda's being unable to travel any distance, she is comfortably situated in a nursing home in Yarmouth, Me., where Cy calls on her every day. Particularly pleasant it was for them to have Thanksgiving dinner with their son John '45 and family in South Free port, easily accessible from Falmouth Foreside and Yarmouth.
Other '05ers seem satisfied with the northern climate: in early December Verney Russell wrote that they were having a mild winter. He and Ina were planning to spend the holidays with their daughter and granddaughters in Oregon. Likewise Pollock Balph finds pleasure in watching the birds which frequent his feeding station - some eleven kinds.
Word has just come that Roger and JaneBrown flew December 30 to Florida, where they will stay at Anna Maria until spring. From C.C. Hills in Mt. Dora came word that Joseph B. Perley died November 28 in a nursing home in Enfield, N. H., and again that Leon B. Smith died December 15 at his home at Fruitland Park, Fla. The Class of 1905 extends sincere condolences to their respective bereaved wives and families. Obituaries of these men will appear under In Memoriam in this or a subsequent DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
