We've said it before. We'll say it again: one of the greatest joys of our job is receiving the many greeting cards during the Christmas season. And in late years, we like to pass along the poetic endeavors of BillyWilliams.

Merry Christmas: Two magic words! we love to send Their message of good will; Of tightest bonds Time cannot rend, Affection that will never end, That perfect gift of friend-to-friend: We say them! - Bea and Bill

Following are some quotes from the messages of good will received from Tenners: Ken Phillips writes: "Thanks for your fine reminders of bygone days and best wishes for your good health. Would like to see you coming up my driveway and maybe we could get up a quartet and show them what two bass singers from 1910 could really do."

From "Carp" Carpenter: "No time available for most of us to spend reading Dickens still no harm in reminding you of the good lines from The Old Curiosity Shop: 'What is the odds so long as the fire of soul is kindled at the taper of conviviality, and the wing of friendship never moults a feather... and the present moment is the least happiest of our existence.'"

From the Chad Chadbournes: "Trust your supply of the granite of New Hampshire is renewed. Ours is weathering a bit -but think perhaps to do something about it in the coming year."

From the Beezle Parkers: "We have just returned last week from a quick trip to Hanover where we attended the 100th anniversary banquet of the Theta Delta Chi at Dartmouth.

"Am returning your postcard. Let there be no question as to my stand in regard to the two points in your questionnaire." (He voted no on both items.)

From Henry Kelley: "Your '68 Christmas card brought back memories of how indignant we were over the changes made by the Williams Team and how readily we agreed to drop athletic relations with that college."

From Art Allen: "It was great to see you in October and hope you are having a good winter. Just having our first snowstorm, a small one. Have a Happy New Year and see you in June."

From the Hal Spragues: "I'm ever so sorry we missed you last fall. We do hope to see you again in Hanover in June, however."

From Pineo Jackson: "The Princeton game was a great disappointment particularly to those of us who live close to the Tiger's lair. Have had notes recently from Kendall, Scarlett, and Billy Williams - all OK - but no class news of importance - just hanging on, one might say."

Andy Scarlett's wife Bertha writes on their card: "Andy says, 'I don't see how I grew so old so fast!' " Imagine this comment from one of the very young members of the Class - he reached 80 last year.

Herb Wolff writes on his card: "Thanks for your wishes. We have been in pretty good health and hope all's well with you. In answer to my November, 1969, Bequest letters, I heard from quite a few of our classmates, that they intend to come to our Reunion next June."

From Mai Bissell: "Had lunch with Carp in San Francisco recently. Chad and CeciliaChadbourne had Thanksgiving dinner with us, and we get together occasionally.

"As for ourselves, we're holding out pretty well. We drove to Los Angeles recently and found we could still do 400 miles a day comfortably. We're expecting our seventh great-grandchild in January. Hope all is well with you."

Through the Christmas message we learned that Bucky Allen had some difficult moments early last year. He overcame three coronaries which struck him down in January. Kay writes he is getting back to normal health. From Burt Miller comes the hint of a possible 34th time under the surgeon's knife. He is now in Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Baton Rouge. Here's hoping the doctors may find a way to help Burt without using another knife.

We have to report the passing of another Tenner. Ed Kenway was struck by a car while crossing the road to his mailbox. This happened December 10. He was killed instantly. Word of Ed's passing came to us in a note from Mac Stanton.

Other Christmas cards were received from Miriam and Larry Bankart, Ed Dusham, Florence and Mac Kendall, Florence and Nort Cushman, the Bert Kents, Nat Emerson, Sally and Ray Seymour, Thayer Smith. Also cards from Bill Taylor, Claire and Sandy Sandberg, Howard Bushway, the Allan Dorrs, Rena and Hazen Jones, Gladys and Ned Loveland and the Paul Alberts.
