December has been a wild wintry month and as the year wanes it is snowing and cold and the wind from the northeast, and blowing a gale.

Bill Towler hasn't yet recovered from that loss to Princeton. Nevertheless that was a fine Dartmouth team. Princeton was up more so than Dartmouth for that game and at times it was hard to believe it was the same team that went through the season without a loss until then. Lois Towler sent me some pictures taken at the Harvard game last fall. Included is an excellent photo of Beroice and Bill Mason looking chipper and enjoying the game; a photo of MoseLinscott with a big smile.

Oscar Scharrer writes that he can sum up the year 1969 in which he has enjoyed good health and enough strength to go to his office each week. It was a pleasure to have clients call on him and have enough confidence in him to tell of their problems and be able to straighten them out both civilly and criminally. Of all things Oscar has bought a piece of land with a nice creek on it and likens it to Mink Brook in Hanover. This land Oscar says was given by President George Washington to Dr. John Hole who was a surgeon in the Revolutionary War. It came down to the Holes to the last generation of which Everett Hole was the representative and whose estate Oscar settled and from whom he acquired the land. It has on it the original trees from Colonial times, Oscar says it will be a great pleasure on their part in getting their home built on this historic land. So you can see they have something to look for- ward to this coming year.

Dr. Richard J. Spillane, son of BernardSpillane of our class has written Jack Remsen that he had a call from Rock Edwards about a month ago. Rock still summers at Knollwood on Long Island Sound. Dr. Spillane's oldest son graduated from Loomis in June. He was on the varsity cross country and track teams from freshman year, and junior captain of the former. Enrolled at the U. of Madrid for summer and U. of Miami in the fall. He is almost six feet tall and has lots of theatrical talent, especially dancing. Never had any interest in Hanover or any Ivy League college. Wanted a large university, co-ed and a large city. Then Richard has Patrice, 14 years old and Michael age 13 at home. Richard is on the senior staff in urology at Hartford Hospital primarily and surrounding institutions where he consults and operates occasionally. His wife is the former Betty Jane Hawkins of Clyde, N.C.

Vic Dunbar's address is Box 81, Sackville, N.B., Canada, in case somebody would like to write him. Jack Remsen heard from Lucy Thomson, Dean Thompson's widow, giving him news of her family. Harlan, her son, was installed as president of the Pasadena District of the American Institute of Banking. He also received his graduation certificate with honors for all courses. Mrs.Matt Gately now resides in Queensland, Australia, and her address is 401 Bowen Terrace, New Farm, in that city.

Bart Sheperd and Renza spent Christmas and the holidays with their son Alan and family at Houston, Texas.

Zannie Robeson of Washington, D.C., reports that our mutual friend Dick Clarke '15 (Robert G.) died 10 Nov. '69 at his home in Montclair, N.J.I knew him well. Dick was a fine lad and well liked by his classmates and many from our class who knew him. Joe Barnett in the sunny south writes that it must be tough to battle that New England winter. It is, no doubt about it. He goes on to say "for older people there is always the continuing fear of falling on icy walks or streets. But, on the other hand, says Joe, right down here in Florida, I managed to have a hell of a fall in my own back yard. Goes to show."

Jay Runkel is now at 1850 So. Ocean Blvd., Pompano Beach, Fla. Stephen Perry now resides at 49 Oak St., Geneseo, N.Y. 14454. Fred Page celebrated his 80th birthday 28 Oct. '69 with a day in the woods with three companions. They even had a birthday cake. Frederick A. Wies, whose maternal grandmother was Mrs. John G. Nelson (deceased) wife of John G. Nelson, died suddenly in Syracuse, N.Y., August '69.

Ed Sides reports that he and his wife had their annual check-up and they got very encouraging reports. They may yet make the 60th after all. They flew to Connecticut last summer where they saw their two great-grandchildren for the first time. Their father Peter Remig just returned from Vietnam. Lt. David Sides '57 is leaving for Vietnam.

News is scarce so if anybody has any, send it in. A happy and above all a Healthful New Year.
