A note from Bill Terry says that his son is completely recovered from his airplane accident and is back to work with a nice advancement. He says that it is just possible that Phoenix is out to set a new high in temperature records-always 100 degrees or more and the top is an official 116 degrees. He, Sarah, and Betty headed north this summer and planned to visit Hanover.
Joe Barnett and I have gagged around about the eagles for years—in reference to his home address on Eagles Nest Drive. A while ago he talked with a man who knows all about that. Up to 1930 or so all the land south of Clearwater along the bay was just weeds. There was a bald eagle's nest in a big pine on an estate just a 100 yards from his home, which the man showed him. People moved into the area and citrous groves were established. Naturally the eagles were scared away and moved their nest to parts unknown. But this man says they come back for a short visit each week. He has seen them often. No one knows where they nest, in fact there is a reward of $1000.00 for anyone who can locate it.
Dot Catteral Colchester and her husband left 19 September for a three-week trip to Spain and Portugal. Bob and MildredConant both having recovered from recent illnesses, took a trip up to Maine in late September.
All the Barnett family, two sons, a daughter, and eight grandchildren, were together in Belleair, Fla., on October 9 to celebrate Joe and Marie's 50th wedding anniversary. Jack and family came from New Canaan, Conn. Tom and his group flew from San Jose, Calif., and daughter Katherine and family live in nearby Harbor Bluffs. We all send congratulations, good health and a long life.
I hear that Mildred Conant has agreed to take on the job to act as a a sort of women's editor to generate letters from wives and widows. This is a fine idea and it should work out. She is ideal for it as she has lived in Hanover all these years and probably knows more women '13ers than anyone else. Bob Conant's surgeon told him he would be free to use all his clubs in the bag. So far he has putted and chipped and used his five iron but doesn't go all the way yet.
Harry French and his daughter (Dr. Elizabeth French Lathem) returned in September from a three weeks' trip to the fjords of Norway. Freddie Page is as usual and is looking forward to the bird season. Vic Dunbar came "over" from Sackville, N. B.., to attend the Alumni College. His son Donald is on the staff of Mount Allison in the Psychology Department.
