On Charter Day, 40 alumni and wives gathered at the Bay Hills Country Club in Orlando, Fla., to celebrate Dartmouth's entry into her Third Century. Following a short social period, the luncheon meeting was called to order by Bud Wesselmann '27, our president. Don Cheney '11 gave a most appropriate blessing on behalf of the College and this important event in Dartmouth's history. After lunch, President Wesselmann welcomed the alumni and guests followed by some thoughts in connection with Charter Day. This was followed by our viewing the very fine Bicentennial film which took us all back to Hanover, a great treat for those so far removed from the campus. Before adjournment, Bud Wesselmann presented to both Carl Pfau '13 our retired treasurer and your secretary, Ken Thomas '21, beautiful Dartmouth platters. It has been a great pleasure for both of us to try to further the cause of this fine Club. After singing "Men of Dartmouth," the meeting was adjourned.
On Tuesday, December 30, we held our annual Christmas luncheon which is always a festive occasion. The one and only DonCheney '11, furnished us with his special citrus elixir with which we toasted the College. John Tiedtke '30 who had attended the Charter Day dinner in Hanover, gave us a fine report on the dinner and also added some interesting comments from his own observations while in Hanover. It was nice to welcome to our area, Rev. Larry Huntley'50, Karl Wolff '36, Ken Simonds '25, BillMcCague '67, Guy Busch '49, Carlton McNamer Jr. '35, and also Frank Karlslake '24 who was here for the Holidays.
A dinner meeting of the Long Island Club included (I to r) Gary Golden, defensiveline coach; Sabin Daniziger '64, club president; Gordon McKernan '42, past presidentand recipient of the Tomahawk award on this occasion; Coach Bob Blackman; EdComiskey '63; Bert Rowley '61; Bill Morton '59; and Mike Pender '47, club secretary.
