Mrs. Henrietta Washburn, widow of our classmate, Bishop Benjamin Washburn of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, N. J., from 1935 to 1958, died Thursday, January 8 in the Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, after a short illness. A son, Seth H. Washburn, was in the Class of 1943.
Robert (Bob) Stokes of 11 Knollwood Drive, Newton, Conn., writes that he is doing well at his age of 84½. It was also nice to hear from Edward B. Barker of 15 Evans Ave., Rutherford, N. J., that he is enjoying good health.
Dr. Earle B. Fowler who lived in the Proctor House when your secretary did during 1906 and 1907, came across a photograph of our beloved classmate WalterGardner Kennedy and his bride-to-be, Miss Lallie Lee Carpenter, taken in Hanover at graduation. They were married July 10, 1907, in Virginia. Those were the "Good Old Days" says Earle and Barbara.
On January 26 your secretary heard from Allan Brown, Warner, N. H., where the temperature was 20 degrees below zero. Allan missed not going to Florida this winter.
Fred T. Lena's widow, Harriet, keeps busy with her piano teaching and a few voice pupils. She also had a pleasant trip to Italy last fall. Fred's daughter, Elizabeth Schmitt, teaches students from sixteen foreign countries who are enrolled in English and citizenship classes sponsored by the Adult Education Division of the Bedford Public Schools.
Edward Ashley and his son of Evanston, I11., have just returned from Denver, Colo., where they attended the Convention of Modern Languages.
Classmates having birthdays in March are Albert Hazen, born March 20, 1885 and Alfred G. White, born March 31, 1885. Keep well and smiling, as always.
Your secretary has just completed his annual supervision of Street Listing and checking the Voting List for the town of Upton. I am also chairman of the Red Cross and of the Red Cross drive as well as Director of Civil Defense, so you see I keep out of mischief!
