Greetings from sunny Florida. Although we are far from Hanover, some items from the cold, snowy North have been forwarded to us here so we will relay them to you.
This is being written while the Faculty-Student Slalom races are actually underway (Saturday, January 31). As we look at the sunlit breakers on the beach, it is hard to realize that at this moment the faculty is giving the students ski lessons on three to five feet of snow!
As an indication of the increasing tempo at DMS, you will probably be interested to know that over 1000 applications have been received for the 1970 entering class and are still coming, and the members of the Admissions Committee are practically overwhelmed with interviews.
Now for such incidental intelligence as has reached us here. U.S. Medicine, issue of December 1, 1969, carried a picture of John Herrmann M'55, Assistant Chief of Surgery at the Washington VA Hospital, briefing President Nixon on the surgical research program. .. . Wanda reports that Bruce LaFollette M'55 is the Division Surgeon with the 25th Infantry Division in South Vietnam, but hopes to be back with his family July 31.... Jack Babson M'63 wrote us most enthusiastically of his marriage to Captain Annie Laurie Stuart, U.S. Army (dietitian) last November.... Gene andEleanor Lariviere M' 63, now returned to civilian status, live in Derry, N. H., from which Gene commutes to Boston Floating where he is a pediatric resident.... PaulKraus M' 64 started the new year right by visiting DMS.... Ned Harley M' 64 (psychiatry) and his wife Dr. Bobbie (pediatrics) are heading for California in the spring Pete and Penny Wright M'65 are enjoying their stay at NIH as well as their two boys. ... Meryl Ram M'65 is doing his military service in the Army and expects to be ordered overseas in the near future.
Bill Dudley M'66 reported in from Philadelphia but forgot to give us any news. ... John Bullock M'66, presently the medical officer for a destroyer squadron, informs us that Gretchen presented him with John Jr. on January 7, and that he expects to do an ophthalmology residency at YaleNew Haven Medical Center when released from the service... .Al Czaja M'66 is busy with his residency in Internal Medicine at Philadelphia General.... The class of M'66 is certainly represented at the New York Hospital: Garth Gregory in Radiology; JimRini in Radiology; Paul Bates in Ob-Gyn; and Mark Brodkey in Surgery. Garth goes in the Army in July.... The engagement of Lance Dodes M'68 to Connie Diamond was announced in the N. Y. Times recently.... Bruce Redfield M'69 returned to Hanover from Seattle to be married in Rollins Chapel to Sandra Duehrssen.
