Yessir, I pulled another boner. DaveLarrabee advises me that, during his recent heart problem, it was his cardiologists who almost gave him up, not his daughters, as I read and wrote it. I must confess that Dave's handwriting is almost half as bad as mine.

Shep Wolff, who used to write regularly before he got involved in his Etna rookery, advises that the new house is practically complete. My spies advise me that the house is perched on top of a rock, accessible only by motorized caterpillars. Shep sent along several items; Irv and Gertrude Bettman will be retiring to Hanover come spring; Johnny Cogswell was recently in Hanover running the A.T.&T. management objectives program; Walt Douglas was named a vice president of the General Association of Alumni of Dartmouth College for 1970-1971.

Cliff Walker has been named a Senior Vice President of Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. which he joined immediately after leaving Dartmouth. He started out in their actuarial department, was named the company's first comptroller in 1960, and added vice presidential duties in 1963. He will retain overall responsibility for the accounting, comptroller, electronic data processing, and general audit divisions and will take on new corporate management chores. Cliff lives in Vernon, Conn., on Box Mountain Drive.

Alice Loveland, ghost-writing for Dave, states that Interstate 91 carved through the hillside in back of their lovely farm in Norwich, and separated them from their spring. The authorities paid for a well, but life is not the same without the natural spring that used to be piped into the kitchen there.

Willard Matteson played in the New York State Masons' Golf Tournament in Binghamton this fall, had a wonderful time, but insofar as golf was concerned, he says he should have stayed in Buffalo.

Tom Loudon writes that his son got home in one piece after 19 months in Vietnam.

Everything seems to happen at once for Sher Guernsey. Once more, he could not attend the Princeton weekend in Hanover because it was apple picking time.

Joe Gathright says he was "persuaded" to take a three-week trip to Greece and Turkey this fall, but he doesn't say who persuaded him.

Having retired from Armstrong Cork after 39 years of service, Frank Gavan had some cards printed "consulting engineer" and is still holding forth in Lancaster, Pa.

From Si Leach: "Had thought that the last twelve months, following the termination of my activity with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, would have afforded an opportunity to catch up but it did not work that way. My golf clubs are still up in the attic. Was over to England for a short visit last spring and attended a reception to which the Earl of Dartmouth was invited but I did not catch up with him. Perhaps the fact that there were 499 other guests may have contributed to this! Francis and I saw Expo in Japan in May and also experienced the (joys) of sleeping on the floor in a Japanese countryside Inn! We are looking forward to reunion next June."

Milt Hallenbech also hopes Marion and he can attend the reunion. Lately they have been busy with the marriage of their daughter Claire to John McCulloch, with Allied Chemical in Marristown, Pa.

Jim Laughton is enjoying civilian suburbia in Bellevue, Wash., and also expects to attend our 40th next June.

Bob Wallace was elected vice president, corporate planning of American District Telegraph, New York. A director of the company, Bob was previously financial consultant to the president.

Main speaker at the fall commencement of Suffolk University in Boston was our own Johnny Benson who does indeed get around. Things I didn't know until now about Johnny are (1) he's treasurer of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation and (2) a member of the Finance Advisory Board of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He's the man to see about a lower tax bill!
