Here's a choice paragraph from a letter which Bunce Clarkson recently sent me: "I opposed co-education at Dartmouth originally but I'm now a 100-per cent convert. We have been to several musicals (at Hopkins Center) and are overcome with the talent abilities of our present undergraduates. Why, when we attended the 'Elizabethan' performance of Chamber Singers, one little blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty leaned over my shoulder and whispered, 'I'll meet you in back of the haycock at midnight. She's lucky to be alive, as Eleanor was right on the spot." I would say, Bunce, that once you acquire sex appeal you never lose it.
Speaking of coincidences, which we weren't, I was checking my recent bank statement. There was a canceled check missing; in its place was a note from the bank stating that the check had been temporarily mislaid. Two weeks later, I received a note from Allan McLean enclosing the missing check. It had shown up with his canceled checks!
I must have ruffled Ernie Moore's feathers when I inquired about what he found to do in Zellwood Station, Fla. He sent me a copy of his December date calendar and every day of that month was filled with something or other. Golf, concert, dinner, lay new carpet, golfdrinks, reception, business meeting, golf and on and on. He wrote: "Can't help you re shuffleboard because haven't played since the hurricane of 1938 wiped out Misquamicut, I enclose a sample copy of this retiree's schedule which does not include gardening, house-cleaning, shopping, jawing, parties (formal and informal), sight-seeing, night school, etc. " Night school! I would sure like to quote the rest of his letter but I can't translate it. I wish Ernie had learned how to type a few years ago One thing he did mention was the annual disc war between Richardson and Wheeler halls. I remember those, for I was a Wheelerite for two years; although Richardson was up on the hill from us we always looked down on them for some reason. A lot of precious recordings were smashed in those melees. Little did we know.
